Book Description

January 1, 1998
Like to hunt? Like to fish? Well, here's the one activity that best combines both sports. Spearing for suckers and carp is a fairly common springtime activity. But "Spearing Suckers & Carp" gets into the details for year around spearing. You'll not be dependent upon spawning activity any more!

"Spearing Suckers & Carp" is 32 pages of everything you'll need to inexpensively gear up, locate the best waters to spear in, find the fish, and successfully spear them day or night. Be careful! Spearing can really get into the blood. Wading upstream to a riffle can find you suddenly spearing at several dozen frantic suckers as they try to escape downstream. Slowly stalking upstream along a snag can find you reaching ever so slowly for a telling thrust into the shoulders of a 20-pound muscle--commonly called a carp. Expect to get showered!

Suckers and carp are overpopulated in virtually every waterway that has them. In some waters they are more than half the biomass--and that's a powerful lot of big fish. Don't miss out on this opportunity. For more fishing/hunting fun that you ever thought you and a couple of buddies could get into, you owe it to yourself to get this book.

About the Author

Richard E. Faler, Jr. born in 1954, is a native of Greenville, Pennsylvania.

Most of his life has had an outdoor orientation. He has troubleshot the mongoose nuisance trapping program in Haleakala National Park for the Department of the Interior, foot-snared black bear in Maine and professionally hunted fox in six states and Ontario.

He has been awarded over 40 world records for fish caught in northwestern Pennsylvania and is Pennsylvania representative for the International Game Fish Association.

Richs first freelanced article sold to "Fur-Fish-Game" magazine during his junior year of high school. His second sold during his first year at Thiel college. He has sold hundreds of freelanced articles since.

In 1978, Rich launched his first periodical, "Flyrodder". Three years later he sold it. In 1979, he self-published "The Fox Caller's Guide", a 64-page, how-to-do book that made him a good profit and pushed him permanently into self-publishing.

Since this beginning during 1978-79, he has self-published 19 books and started three more magazines. His continuing credits include masthead status on a number of regional and national magazines, and full-time editorship of "The Trapper & Predator Caller" from 1985 to 1990.

In 1988, Rich and wife Kristen began Beaver Pond Publishing & Printing. This business was a two-fold combination of publishing house and commercial printer. Before beginning Beaver Pond, Rich learned to layout, shoot negatives, run press and finish jobs by renting a local facility after hours and by working for three different printers. This intense and varied experience was brought together in the forming of Beaver Pond. Here, Rich and Kris began to help others in their self-publishing projects. This has become their specialty. The business incorporated in 1997 and Rich is now Publications Director for Beaver Pond. He is also editor of their magazine "BAIT Fisherman" and continues to produce his own books.

Rich is a charter member of the Kentucky Outdoor Press Association and past member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He had been an active member of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association since 1978, served on the board of directors and subsequently became president in 1999.
