The town is Deerford in north central Illinois. The main characters in this series are: James Bell RN medical/surgical, his wife, Fern who has MS, their sons Gideon and Nelson.
Anabelle Scott RN Supervisor cardiac care, Cameron Scott her husband, Evan Scott, their son, Ainslee and Doug Giffen their daughter and son-in-law, Lindsay Belle, their granddaughter; and Kirstie their daughter.
Elena Rodriguez LPN intensive care; Cesar her husband, police officer, Rafael, their son, Isabel (Izzy) Rafael's daughter, Sarah ??, Isabel's mom.

Heath asks Candace to marry him and, with the approval of her children, she is happy to say yes.

Skip Mullen, Heath's friend from high school, having recently been hired as Chief Information Officer at Hope Haven, plans to bring in grants to fund the hospital's electronic technology capabilities. Skip and his wife Margie have three children, Indiana age 9, Eason age 6, and Violet age 2.

Some of the previous patients at Hope Haven have nominated the hospital for the coveted National Outstanding Small Hospital Quest for Excellence Award.

Janet, Candace's mom, has been living with Candace and helping her since her husband, Dean, died, is considering moving out now that Heath and Candace are getting married. Does she want some freedom? Does she feel she will be in the way? Candace wonders what will she do without her mom there.

The committee for the Quest for Excellence Award has sent the hospital a dossier of questions to be answered by each department of the hospital. Skip asks Anabelle to be on the committee to answer the questions regarding the nursing program.

Another great story in this series. Always enjoy these books. You laugh and cry with the characters in these books. They seem like friends.

The staff at Hope Haven became my friends and now that I am done with the series, I miss them. Be sure to read all 16 books.
