About the Author

Dr. Pueschel studied medicine in Germany and graduated from the Medical Academy of Dusseldorf magna cum laude. He then pursued his pediatric residency training and subsequently was a fell in biochemical genetics and metabolism. In 1967, he earned a master's degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health; in 1985, he was awarded a doctoral degree in developmental psychology from the University of Rhode Island; and, in 1996, he was granted a law degree from the Southern New England School of Law.

From 1967 to 1975, Dr. Pueschel worked at the Developmental Evaluation Clinic of Children's Hospital in Boston. There he became Director of the first Down Syndrome Program and also provided leadership to the PKU and Inborn Errors of Metabloism Program. In 1975, Dr. Pueschle was appointed director of the Child Development Center at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He has continued to pursue his interest in clinical activities, research, and teaching in the fields of developmental disabilities, biochemical genetics, and chromosome abnormalities. Dr. Pueschel has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally. He has authored or coauthored 15 books and has written more than 200 scientific articles. Dr. Pueschel is certified by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Medical Genetics. His academic appointments include Lecturer in Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School; and Professor of Pediatrics, Brown University School of Medicine.
