4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Additions, February 17, 2010
This review is from: Special Delivery (MP3 Download)
Or do I mean "editions?" Both, really. With "Special Delivery," Michael Buble continues to bring his own brand of cool to some of the most enduring standards. He also throws in one of his reinterpretations of a not-so-classic, in this case the Bobby Darin/Frank Sinatra hit, "Softly, as I Leave You." It's the kind of soft rock schlock that Buble has a particular affection for...but I don't, hence the four stars. But hey, the man has earned the right to record whatever he likes, and it's a formula that obviously works.

He also loses one star for, once again, releasing tracks in piecemeal. I know the guy is busy, but this has obviously become a strategy for Buble and his label; it's one I find particularly annoying. I suppose in this digital age when people (including myself) simply add songs to mp3 playlists, it doesn't really matter if it's six songs or ten. But I miss the days when recording artists spent most of their energies recording. With the unending pool of standards out there (Buble doesn't need to wait around for new material) and the effortlessness with which he performs them, he should be releasing two 12-track albums a year.

Look, it may sound as if I'm carping here, but I'm really not. "Special Delivery" is special indeed, as is most of what Mr. B. puts out there. I'm a diehard fan, and will continue to buy whatever becomes available. I just wish there were more of it. I guess that's as significant a compliment as I can offer.

Well done set of songs by the singer. The instrumental mix sounds too produced for my ears. I would have prefered a more natural sounding big band style mix and less reverb on the vocals.
For the definitive "Mack the Knife" it's got to be Bobby Darin.
Buble gets better with age as I would expect. Worth listening to.

SPECIAL DELIVERY is an awesome treat from Michael Buble. With his new cd release CRAZY LOVE, which I love, he still does many covers of classics but also spends more time than usual spreading his wings to more pop influenced music. It works greatly but it also makes sense that he release this mini set SPECIAL DELIVERY. It is just that and it reminds us of the music he started out singing - the classics. These are not subpar songs, ones that didn't make the cut on the latest cd. Any one of these songs would have added even more dimension to CRAZY LOVE.

My two favorites here are two standards that are true, true classics and have been performed by mny of the greats. To see the Buble touch on I'M BEGINNING TO SEE THE LIGHT and ORANGE COLORED SKY reminds one of the level of this man's talent. Yes, his winning personality is so strong it not only comes across in his live performances but through his music as well. Here we are reminded of the technical skill and range he also possesses. And THESE FOOLISH THINGS as well as SOFTLY AS I LEAVE YOU are heart-rending ballads that are not overdone but simple, plaintive readings that show Michael at his most emotional.

I am thrilled with this set and highly recommend it. The fact that 6 songs could have such a strong impact is a true testament to the talent of Michael Buble. As I said before we need to remember the true talent this guy possesses for what he has is spades is the IT factor. Michael Buble has that special something that makes him shine. He is a star. But he is also sincere, down to earth and possesses a great voice with great vocal ability and range.

What can I say, Michael Bublé is Michael Bublé! His voice sounds wonderful, like it always does. His version of "Dream A Little Dream of Me" is languid with a bluesy arrangement. My only thought is that "Mack The Knife," good as it is, is out of place on this collection of love songs. If you are a fan of MB's, you'll love this record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun!, December 4, 2010

"Special Delivery" is a wonderful small compilation release by Michael Buble. The setlist begins with a soft and slow number, and the tempo and energy just pick up from there. Michael's voice is perfectly suited to these songs. With a $5 pricetag, you can't go wrong. Buy this album for the car, as it is the perfect length for shorter drives. Here's a song by song breakdown:

1. These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You): Incredible standard dating back to the earlier part of the 1900s that wasn't immediately popular. A slow moving song that showcases Michael's ability to sing a beautiful love song. This song will remind you of being separated from a loved one.

2. Softly as I Leave You: Originally an Italian song, it was translated to English and became one of the top songs on the Billboard charts as performed by Frank Sinatra. Another slow moving song, but with a bit more volume than the first track. Michael does another excellent job showcasing his ability to sing the classics.

3. Dream a Little Dream of Me: Here is where the tempo picks up for the album. This early 1900s song has been sung by some huge talents including the great "Satchmo" and Ella Fitzgerald. Michael shows that he can sing this song just as good as those greats have in the past.

4. I'm Beginning to See the Light: Another step up for tempo increases the likeability of this song. In 1945, this song was #5 on the pop hit list as performed by Ella Fitzgerald and the Ink Spots. Michael Buble is at his best when singing an up-tempo song that you can't help but sing along with.

5. Mack the Knife: My personal favorite track on the album, as I am a huge fan of the song. This popular standard is at its best when performed by Louis Armstrong, but Michael does an incredible job making this song fun and increasing the tempo a bit.

6. Orange Colored Sky: Best known for being sung by Nat King Cole, this song is a great way to finish this album. It continues the trend of increasing tempo, and is possibly the song on the album that is the most fun to sing along with. You'll find yourself putting this particular track on repeat so that you can learn the words.

I just downloaded his new (MP3 only) 6 track album, "Special Delivery" on Amazon and it's FANTASTIC! Just a little of the lisp by the way, not distracting IMO. These are the newest songs of his I believe and some of his best. About half are slow and romantic and the others are upbeat. His best to date. OK, except for his first hit album, Michael Buble' :-)

Two thumbs up! What can anyone say when it comes to Buble? He's the best!
This wonderful young talented artist will be singing for us for many years to come. A refreshing change to a lot of sounds that are all over the radio airwaves. Thank goodness for this marvelous talented young man to revitalize what "good" music SHOULD sound like. Each song is marvelous. Looking forward to his next CD! Longevity is definitely in his career and future.
