The film actually has a story and of course the period costumes and scenes straight out of a Jane Austin novel are beautifully done.

Like taking a pleasant walk through a quiet garden on a warm afternoon, Time of Her Life leaves one feeling invigorated and refreshed by its clean and likable characters and beautiful photography. The story moves a wee bit slow compared to some of today's fast-paced overly flashy films, but the charming lead actress does a good job in her roles and helps you to keep connected to what's unfolding. Special effects are "old school" style. Costumes appear to be appropriate for the time period represented. I will say as an archaeologist and historian I found some things slightly off-putting, like the heroine being able to wander around a stately home/museum without escort, and she and the gardener just plowing at the ground in a historic cemetery to dig up a skeleton (with a seam on its skull), but some errors can be forgiven for the sake of a fun and entertaining film, which this is. Any fan of Jane Austin novels or classic ghost stories will enjoy Time of Her Life as much as I did. Kudos to the film makers. I look forward to seeing other work by this writer and director.

This film was made by my brother, so this review is going to be a bit in his favour. It is obviously low budget and they had no money but it is a good story and you are drawn into the characters, which is rare for films today. The film actually has a story and of course the period costumes and scenes straight out of a Jane Austin novel are beautifully done. The ghost feature is good because you might miss it in the film itself. Nice locations and nice photography. Acting is good, but this director is going to go far when he gets some real funding. I have left a synopsis below. So please buy this DVD if you like old fashioned movie making and spooky, eerie English mansion settings. Sunday afternoon drama with a chill.

The gothic romantic thriller Time of Her Life concerns two spirits, temporally estranged, who must spend their days eternally - and fruitlessly - roaming the grounds of a British estate, looking for one another. As the story opens, Ally (Laura Penneycard), an aspiring photographer, is puzzled by inexplicable dreams. She befriends Emmett, the scion to a wealthy industrialist haunted by memories of his girlfriend Catherine, a servant-girl who vanished without explanation. Ally wants to help Emmett find Catherine, but feels deeply disturbed by Emmett's inhuman appearance and must work through her fears before she can begin to aid him. In relaying the story, writer, producer and director Steven M. Smith cuts back and forth between two time periods, and laces the film with supernatural sequences and hair-raising suspense. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

The director/producer of this film, Steven Smith, sent me the film to watch a while ago. I really enjoyed the ghost and parallel love story it had in it. Laura Pennycard has resemblances to Kiera Knightley in some ways too! Also shot on beautiful locations in Britain! Worth checking out on a rainy day at home!

Romance, lost love and a scary ghost story. Steven R. Smith's movie Time of her Life has all those elements. Set in modern day with a cross-over into 200 years in the past, which works very well. The film starts off as a suspense thriller and turns into a period romance, Ally discovers links to a tragedy that has created a lovelorn ghost Emmett searching for his lost lady love. The production looks lavish and beautifully shot, located in a Gothic mansion and its grounds. The music score was exceptional. If you like love stories, mysteries, along with ghost stories then this is the movie for you. A real ghost was even caught on camera. Steven did an amazing job of story telling his first time out and the music perfectly fits each scene of the movie and brings in you in the movie as you go on this journey with Ally.Steven has a bright future ahead of him in the film industry.

Time of Her Life is a good clean family film which would probably have younger viewers shouting out 'He's behind you!'. I personally preferred the original opening scenes as found they explained clearly Allys' asthma and that she used an inhaler, and would be interested to know what other viewers think. This film may have been made on a shoestring, or, as Steven M. Smith says... 'low budget/no budget' but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is well made, clearly showing what can be achieved with a little determination and a lot of help from your friends. There are some fantastic scenery shots and I absolutely loved some of the special effects, especially the ghost walking right through Ally! I'm really glad I have the Blooper reel as found some of the outtakes hilarious and had a few laugh out loud moments, which is rare to have with many of the films made today. I hope Steven M Smith has luck with taking his film making further and will be checking out his other films which are on this site, as well as awaiting any future films he may have in the pipeline. This is one Sunday afternoon that has been spent enjoyably lazing in front of the television with a couple of friendly ghosts and a story that most people can relate to.
