Lewis focuses not only on computer applications and methods for adapting computers but also on: * Technologies such as switches for accessing toys, computers, and environmental control devices. * Augmentative communication devices. * Systems such as the Kurzweil Reader that translates print for people who are blind; assistive listening devices for persons with hearing disabilities.
In addition, the book discusses strategies preservice and inservice teachers can use to develop their own material in helping individuals with disabilities, and how to incorporate special technology applications into the classroom curriculum. Lewis addresses technologies aimed at all types of learners identified as disabled: young children in early childhood education programs, students with academic learning needs, those identified as severely handicapped, persons with communication needs, students with physical disabilities, students with vision impairments, and those with hearing losses.
