5.0 out of 5 stars if you like 38 you will like this cd., February 9, 1999

This review is from: Special Forces (Audio CD)
this album has a lot of good music on it. the point is it has three truly great songs. the best one is "caught up in you" arguably the best song they have ever made. then there is the bone chilling and super cool "chain lightning" and finally "you keep runnin'", this song is a mellow foot tapper. so if you like .38 SPECIAL you WILL like this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Southern Rough Boys, August 28, 2004
This review is from: Special Forces (Audio CD)
"Wild Eyed Southern Boys'" 1982 stuff is another of great album that shows their glorious days. CAUGHT UP IN YOU from this album became their first top 10 hit. This album is quite tight with hard rock edge as shown in CHAIN-LIGHTNING. Jim Peterik of Survivor adds dynamism in their smartly written tracks. Together with the two excellent tracks mentioned above, YOU KEEP RUNNING AWAY is also stellar track showing their mellow side that eventually become their trademark sound. Recommended for early 80s rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a rocker!, April 6, 2010
This review is from: Special Forces (Audio CD)
This is my favorite 38 record, heck this is my all time favorite record period! These boys can write songs, and boy can they play'em, my favorite is breakin loose and Don Barnes lead guitar work is awesome on this song and Donnie Van Zant, ALL the songs he sings on this record are PERFECT for his vocals. Jeff Carlisi kicks butt with his guitar work on Chain lightin.Barnes vocals and guitar work, ain't nobody's any better than his. If you like Rock you need this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Special Forces (Audio CD)
If you'll notice almost all the reviews so far mention Chain Lightening, for me the very best song on this album yet not their biggest hit. I love this song so much since I got this album as a 14 yr old girl and it was ME at his front door, and he took me in. How I loved this song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another worthy 38 Special CD, December 19, 2002

I was hard pressed not to give this CD 5 stars, but Strengh in Numbers, in my opinion, was their best overall effort. "Caught Up In You", "Chain Lightnin" and "You Keep Runnin Away" are the strongest songs on this CD. 38 Special was big when southern rock was at its peak, and they would have given Lynard Skynard a run for their money had they avoid tragedy. With Donnie Van Zandt in this group, I find it a worthy comparison. The other six songs on this CD are okay, but none of the others get my foot tapping, which is always my first indication that a song is something special.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best .38 album ever!, June 17, 2010

This is for sure the best .38 album ever. It rocks really hard but is catchy as hell. It is the last album they did that was great, anything later and they get too poppy. One of my top 5 albums.

Everytime I hear "Hold On Loosly", I think about my high school days. This album brings back a lot of memories. Next best band next to Boston and The Allman Brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Love Southern Rock, You'll Love This CD, September 22, 2002
This review is from: Special Forces (Audio CD)
SPECIAL FORCES is one of .38 Special's best albums ever. It's true that the opening Top 10 hit, "Caught Up In You", is slightly overplayed, but it's still very good, and anyway, the album is full of undiscovered gems. "Back Door Stranger" is a pro-law-and-order call to arms that we should all heed; "Back On The Track" is an outlaw anthem for the ages; "Chain Lightnin'" and "You Keep Runnin' Away" marry the Outlaws' country-rock sound to, respectively, Montrose's heavy metal style and the pop-rock of the Steve Miller Band and Peter Frampton; "Rough Housin'" is straight ahead blues-boogie-rock; and the lyrics of "Breakin' Loose" are inspirational and cautionary- at the same time! Overall, this is the best album of 1982, and furthermore the bandmembers' praise for the courage of two teenage girls who defended themselves against a kidnapper in 2002, and the sheriff's deputies who rescued them, makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
