We have two, and 50% is not bad for gambling, but we sure thought they'd both work, but one absolutely will not turn on. The button on the end does not toggle the light on and off, so what's the point? Avoid the hassle, go with a different product. 5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Little Light! - edit, LED's burn out and swicth acts up!, December 19, 2005
This review is from: Special Forces 21 LED Extreme Beam Flashlight (Misc.)
*Edit: This light might be nice, but over time the LED's will start to dim and some burn out, also the switch is cheap because it acts up all the time now. It was not heavily used or abused either. Not worth very much at all.

The Special Forces Extreme Beam LED Flashlight is a very bright and compact flashlight. Its casing is made of anodized aluminum sealed with o-rings to be waterproof. It is perfect for its intended uses of emergencies, camping, automobiles, boats (would most likely sink if dropped in water though), and around the house/garage. Don't look directly at the beam from any close up view, It IS that bright!

To turn it on, you screw the end about 1/4 turn which also seals the o-ring at the same time. The black rubber push button on the end will activate the light also, but will turn off once you let go of the push button (OK to flash the light I guess). The light shines further than I expected since it isn't a focused beam flashlight, as the distance increases the light pattern becomes slightly bigger; but still illuminates great and does its job just fine.

Mine came with cheap batteries inside, but they say it will last a long time and so far has done so. With some real good batteries it would probably have an awesome amount of usage time then. It is perfect to fit in your pocket or a woman's purse, I plan to get a couple more to keep in the vehicles.

5.0 out of 5 stars extremely bright!!, January 14, 2006
This review is from: Special Forces 21 LED Extreme Beam Flashlight (Misc.)
This flashlight is one of the brightest I've even owned. It lights up a room very well. The light is a bright white light, instead of the yellow lights many flashlights give off. It allows you to distinguish colors very easily, even in tight spaces, like the inside of a computer.

It's only redemtive quality is that it is fairly bright.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bright LED Flashlight, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Special Forces 21 LED Extreme Beam Flashlight (Misc.)

This thing is exactly what it claims to be - a bright LED flashlight. LEDs use signifigantly less energy than regular flashlight bulbs so they will put much less drain on the batteries and have a longer bulb lifespan. It's about as long as an average man's hand width, tall as a middle finger, and round as a silver dollar, which makes it nice and compact for carrying. The LEDs are recessed, which protects them from damage and the entire case is constructed out of solid metal. If you wrapped it securely with a cord, it could be attached to one's belt or act as an improvised self-defense item in a pinch since it has a nice weight to it.

My only gripes with this flashlight have to do with the activation mechanism and instructions. There is a plastic pad on the back which can be pressed in and held, or the bottom cap can be screwed on tighter to keep the light activated. If the plastic pad wasn't there, then the flashlight could be stood on it's bottom while providing hands-free light. Also turning the bottom cap has a tendency to eat away at the washer.

If they scrapped the bottom button, kept the bottom flat, redid the washer so it didn't take wear from twisting the cap, wrapped some good black cord around it, and included some basic instructions then this would easily get a 5 and stellar reviews.

I prefer the twist-activation method myself, since you can't accidentally activate the light and run the batteries down while put in a bag as is the case with button and switch flashlights. You don't want to have dead flashlight batteries at a critical moment because something bumped a switch and drained your batteries down. The way this is constructed, the only way that would happen is if something was firmly pressing against the bottom pad for a long time, which is why this product would be much better if it wasn't there.

The packaging didn't come with any instructions. The packaging I received my flashlights in were great. I ordered 2 of these (not from Amazon) and both of them work great, but I wouldn't have known about the twist method of keeping the light on if I didn't run a google search on this flashlight. That should be stated clearly with some instructions.

It had a nice solid construction, uses LEDs to save power which are recessed for protection to boot, is small & compact so it can be carried easily, and puts out a great amount of high-quality white light for clear visibility. Weighing both it's pros and cons, I give this flashlight a 3 out of 5. If the manufacturer followed through with my suggesttions, I'd be recommending this flashlight to everyone.

This flashlight will light up my wall during the day with the lights on. It's really bright. So far no problems with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, March 7, 2007
This review is from: Special Forces 21 LED Extreme Beam Flashlight (Misc.)
This is a cheap flash light. It is bright, but the led bulbs burn out quickly. It is not water proof, it has no seals. The contact spring is extremely flimsy and you will have to find a way to keep the batteries touching the contacts. I had to use two nickels and it makes it quite heavy for its size. When the batteries start to die (after a short period) the flash light will turn off intermittently. Spend a couple more dollars and get something you will use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bright, but lack of working toggle is annoying, August 23, 2006

The flashlight is very bright. That was what I was looking for. Like one of the other reviewers, I need to keep the toggle switch pressed to keep the light on...or I can screw the base tighter and that will keep it on. To turn it off, unscrew the base a litte. Horrible design, or faulty switch. Either way, it makes it unpleasant to use.

This Flashlight is bright and very handy, so this would satisfy an average user. But I think it is inappropriate for them to use the word Special forces, cause military flashlights are far more powerful and they also cost you around 40-70$ at some online stores. But occasionally you can find them at ebay for 20-25$ including shipping.
Finally, this is good for civilians but definitely not a military piece.

This is my update. After using it for two months I see it losing its power and it is no more behaving consistently. So, its just like a pocket thing not a serious product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of all of my flashlights!, November 17, 2008
By
This review is from: Special Forces 21 LED Extreme Beam Flashlight (Misc.)
I have many, many flashlights that I have collected over the years and they seem to be a hobby of mine. This flashlight is my favorite and I have about 8 of them and will be buying more so I can have them in each of my cars and on all floors of my house. I have given a couple away and people love them. It is probably the brightest of my flashlights and close to the smallest. Battery life is incredible. This one is so small, I find myself using my mouth to hold it so I can use two hands to work on projects. The size makes for a great protective weapon in a pinch when used with a clutched fist. I have many Mag-lites, both L.E.D. converted and traditional, but I never use them anymore. I do like the Mag-lites as a protective baton, but not for a flashlight. I also have a Streamlight Twintask 2D, that is also an incredible flashlight, with the Mag-light size, but L.E.D. and traditional bulbs. It may be a bit brighter than this, but the size of this one is so great! Surefires may be one of the best, but they are very expensive. Overall, for the price, this is a very well-built, super bright flashlight, perfect for most anything!
