5.0 out of 5 stars Great, but a few caveats..., April 11, 2006

If you've been actively searching for this MF releases, you're probably going to buy it regardless of the ratings. Everything is done in the well-known MF style - beats a little rougher and unfinished, maybe a little off beat. Before you buy, just a few things to note: 1) Just like the other reviews, the tracks are mixed up. 2) I should've read some of the reviews a little closer, but this is NOT a box set! It's mix of his Instrumental albums, so maybe two minutes of each track. So if you're looking for small patches of beats for mixes or sampling it's fine. But if you're looking for the full instrumentals, you'll have to keep buying the rest of the Special Herbs releases. If you still have the full set of Special Herbs releases, there's still a reason to buy it. There's a 3rd with 10 full length instrumentals of tracks from MF's KMD days.

I'd recommend this for hardcore Doom fans who want everything he has to offer. For those who care only for the extra 10 tracks, and are satisfied with owning all Special Herbs albums already, you'll have to decide if it's worth buying a whole box set for the 10 KMD tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah. This is exactly how Special Herbs should be presented., May 20, 2006

The Special Herbs collections are essentially instrumental-only tunes of what you have heard from MF DOOM / VIKTOR VAUGHN before and then some extra stuff that did not make it to the final cut and of course tunes that MF DOOM had being working on but had no place outside of an instrumental offering. Hence the name, Special Herbs! I would suggest that you search out a full MF DOOM collection and then get these supplements unless you are looking for instrumental-only hip-hop. If you are, then you have come to the right place.

Special Herbs: The Box Set is Special Herbs vol. 0-9. You get all five double albums for the price of two albums. So it is much better value. MF DOOM has done it again. You can play this album from start to end for a full day in your home and never get bored with any of it. It is a masterwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars Burning the Herbs of Instrumental Greatness, April 8, 2006
This review is from: Special Herbs Box Set: 0-9 (Audio CD)
MF Dooms super collection of beats is finally upon us. First the bad: the names are all messed up. All the track titles are wrong. SO, if you are just going to bump this masterpiece in your car or home stereo, no problem but if you are looking on iTunes for your favorite herb/beat, you'll come up with the wrong track. However, the good must be brought to all of ya'lls attention: It is the sickest instrumental CD in history. It is perfect for some freestyle sessions with the homies or with your lady (specificlly track 13, disk one). That's my two cents, and it'll be worth it to gather a couple to purchase the sickness that is the Special Herbs Box Set. CCow Out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Songs Mix but so do the titles, April 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Special Herbs Box Set: 0-9 (Audio CD)
More than 80 songs! That was the first reason why I bought this wicked collection of MF Doom tracks! Instrumentals all come from special herbs 0 - 9 which I think is unreal since it all fits into 2 cds and plus you got a bonus cd with 10 hidden tracks. The only major flaw in this album is that the songs dont go according to the titles displayed in the inner flap of the cd case. For example, it says the song is played on the first track but it is really played on the 8th track. Really confusing but other than that...4 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yowsas!, January 25, 2006

This is a very solid Cd set, 72 tracks mixed-blended by MF, and 10 bonus tracks. A sure buy for any fans of MF Doom or any of his other aliases, also a good buy for those that like Underground Hip-Hop, underground beats, or just overall good music. Very fun mix, there are technical flaws, but this is not as much a mix Cd as it is a compilation CD.

Anyone who even has a slight intrest get it, there are only 7,500 released once they are gone, well they are gone.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Beat heads!, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Special Herbs Box Set: 0-9 (Audio CD)
This set is pure instrumentals. Most of the beats are chill, some stand out more than others. They are easily recognizable as MF DOOM beats, they use samples from diverse sources, a notable beat is Humrush with a funky kermit the frog sample! The songs are shorter than their counterparts in the other cds, but thats reasonable.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but not what I expected, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Special Herbs Box Set: 0-9 (Audio CD)
This album is pretty good, as you would expect from any madlib, metal fingerz, ect but falls short on the length of the individual tracks. All of the beats are only about half to a third of their original length. But if you do not own any metal fingerz and like hip-hop beats I would highly suggest this cd set. Also you might want to checkout rjd2 or dj shadow.

5.0 out of 5 stars MF Doom?, December 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Didn't know MF well before this purchase. Now I see this is a artist among the best. Seriously, every project he touches is gold. You can literally hear his talent in any song or project he's part of.

Type his name into Pandora and enjoy.

I am very pleased with my purchase. It came much faster than I had expected. As for the album itself, There's too much to say. The beats are all fresh and blend well into each other smoothly. It has inspired me to get back into the studio and crank out more of my own beats. Thank you MF Doom for keeping my fire burning for this life of hip hop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great box-set, May 6, 2010

I don't generally review CDs, but this particular instrumental series is one of my favorite. Doom has easily become one of my favorite producers off of this alone.
