Pop reggae at it's finest,
By Bob Czworka (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Special (Audio CD)
While it may not be hard-core, traditional reggae, this is still my all-time favorite pop-reggae disc. Bought the vinyl in the early 80's when it was released...still enjoying the CD. Not as "pained" as most reggae albums...but full of flavor, rhythms and island soul. While most people claim Bob Marley to be the "king"...it was Jimmy Cliff and this album that made me a fan of the genra!

invigorating, connecting and soul-stirring,
By Gary Selikow (Great Kush) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Special (Audio CD)
Another fantastic breezy, joyful light reggae offering from Jimmy Cliff, bringing you the essence of Jamaica, in all its forms.Such songs of island love and joy in `Special', `Love Heights', `Keep On Dancing' `Rub a Dub Partner' and `Rock Children' powerful from the soul of Cliff's Black pride and Rastafarian beliefs in `Roots Radical' and `Originator'. Inspiriting ballads like `Where There is Love' and warnings to the powers that be like `Treat the Youth Right'. The last should serve today as a warning to oppressive regimes like those in Zimbabwe, Cuba, Libya, Syria, Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, China and Vietnam. This album is invigorating, connecting and soul-stirring. Definitely recommended.
