I love my Mio! It is easy to use and understand. I use all the features including the calorie counter and the feature that measures calories burned during a workout. I have compared the heartrate monitor to all of the other heartrate monitors in the gym (attached to the bikes and treadmills)it has always been within 2 beats per minute of those. There are a few things to know before you purchase one: they are a bit large, it sticks up off of my writ quite a bit and tends to catch on things; when I first got it it was uncomfortable because of the size it tended to hurt the top of my wrist and hand; also, the petite band is pretty petite, I have it on the last notch and it fits OK but would be more comfortable if I could move it one more notch. Overall I would highly recommend this tool. It has helped me safely lose 25 pounds.

I love being able to take my heart rate in seconds without having to wear a chest strap.
The watch is easy to program, easy to use, easy to read- even in the dark or underwater with the backlight.
The calorie counter is also very helpful (and motivating!)
The only delta is that even though I ordered it in the petite size, the face of the watch is still rather large and at times slightly uncomfortable to wear because the large watch face limits wrist movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Special Edition MioPINK Shape Select Heart Rate Monitor Watch with Advanced Calorie Features (Petite) (Sports)
I have been using this heart rate monitor for a few weeks now. It seems to be very accurate in monitoring both heart rate and calories burned during a work out. I like that I can keep track of calories in vs. calories out. I liked it so much I bought one for my husband and father. If you don't want to track calories in you can get the sport select and I think it is a little less expensive. Worth the money in my opinion.

I have been using this for a couple of months now so I believe I can give a fair and accurate review of this product. The watch does everything it says. The problem I have with it is that it will not always take a heart rate. If you are running, it will not work. You will have to almost always stop to get the reading. The downside to that is that my HR slows so much when I stop that I cannot get an accurate reading. The heart rate monitor doesn't work while I'm doing laps in the pool, either. By the time I get a reading, my HR has slowed so much that I can never get an accurate reading. Even when I'm still. I have no idea why - must be something about being wet. On the elliptical trainer it does work better. Maybe because I am not moving around as much on there as with running. It does fit me well with room to spare. The watch is huge though. Not sure why it's so bulky and big. The monitors they sell at my gym are much smaller. If you just want it for sports and casual wear, you'll get away with it. If you work in an office - it will not look right on your wrist. It is also uncomfortable.

I do like the calorie feature. I have recently tried this out and it's pretty cool. I also think that the directions are not hard to understand. You may have to fiddle with the watch a bit and then go back and re-read the directions a bit, but it is definitely not hard to understand nor hard to operate.

I would have given it 4 stars instead of just three only if I could manage to get readings off of it better. I will sit there with my fingers on the reader and it just blinks and blinks and blinks... the directions say that if it takes more than 10 seconds to get a reading to remove your fingers and do it over. Kind of a pain when that happens and it happens all the time when running and never works when I'm swimmimng. It is pretty safe to say that you can expect to NOT get readings when you truly need them, in other words, while you are really working hard; because once you stop to get the reading, as I said before, by the time it takes to get one, your HR has changed way too much. All in all, it's still a cool little toy if you don't mind parting with the money.... for people who this would be a bigger investment for, I would honestly say that you may find yourselves disappointed. For those with money to waste and not worry about the small stuff - it's a cool gym toy... and it is waterproof for sure. No problems in the pool or hot tub! Hope this helps someone to make a decision.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes working out fun, July 21, 2006
This review is from: Special Edition MioPINK Shape Select Heart Rate Monitor Watch with Advanced Calorie Features (Petite) (Sports)
I wear this watch constantly now! I love how it warns you when you go over your planned calorie allotment for the day so you can go work out and automatically subtract the calories it calculates from your total, automatically bringing yourself back on track. I also like learning how many calories I burn at work, versus at rest, versus during, say, rollerblading. Really helps you budget your calories in line with your activities. It comes with a calorie index (pocket-sized book) that contains the calorie content of all foods that don't have tend to have caloric content on the packaging (ex: fruit, beans, vegetables) and grants you access to their website which helps you have the appropriate expectations when it comes to daily calories needed and such..... If you're someone who needs a lot of information when it comes to motivation, or someone who gives up trying as soon as you feel like you "sabotaged" your diet, this is an excellent product because it gives you the information you need to undo your mistakes and keep moving forward towards a goal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have!, March 3, 2006

This review is from: Special Edition MioPINK Shape Select Heart Rate Monitor Watch with Advanced Calorie Features (Petite) (Sports)
I recently began to exercise after 35 years of eating pizza and drinking sodas and beer. After two months of regularly going to the gym and doing cardio exercise I can honestly say that I can see a difference which motivates me even more.

I got this watch so that I can track my calories, time my workouts and check my heart rate to ensure maximum efficiency of my cardio exercise. I LOVE IT. I always know when I'm in my target heart rate zone and I always know what time it is when I'm trying to squeeze a trip to the gym inbetween meetings at work.

I love the interchangeable straps as well...very cute and stylish. You will love it! :)

I love this heart rate monitor! It is easy to use and quick to set up and learn. You can record your weight and the watch will keep track of how many calories you are burning as you work out. The watch is so cute...it is really nice to put on something feminine, rather than the ugly masculine hrm I was using before. The best thing is not having to wear the chest strap. It also came with an extra band, which is black/blue, and a little book filled with information about being healthy and fit. It was well worth the money.

I really love it. The band can be a little uncomfortable. I haven't figured out how to track calories burned yet, but I am working on it. It is awesome for making sure I stay on track with my heart rate when I am working out. It is a lot easier than trying to count my own heart rate over the sound of my treadmill or bike going. I like the fact that I don't have to strap anything around me either.

I really like this watch. It's a little big larger than I expected, but I like the instant pulse readout and timer features. Kinda pricey... but I guess you get what you pay for, and overall, it's a great product.

Okay, I have owned the Mio for 9 months now and I agree with all of the above complaints, it is not accurate, it can be difficult to run and check heart rate at same time, it's big and clunky looking, etc, etc.
My biggest beef is that this watch broke 6 months into the game. The heart rate monitor got stuck and rendered the watch useless. I returned it to Mio (with my $10.00 check) and 2 months later, i still have not got my watch back. I complain regularly and they reassure me that it is being repaired in their factory. They assured me that finally after I threw a fit, it would be shipped last week. still no watch. The watch not only sucks, but the company sucks as well. save your money and buy an ironman.
