About Mio
The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainers advice.
Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the worlds first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

I like my MioPINK sport heart rate monitor,

I like to work out at home on days I can't get to the gym. With the MioPINK heart rate monitor, I can monitor time with the stop watch-type feature and check my heart rate through out my workout to know if I'm working at the right intensity. It even tells you what percentage of target heart rate that you are working at. I don't usually bring the monitor to the gym because all the gym equipment has most of the same features and it can be tight to wear on your wrist. The monitor asks for age, birthdate, weight etc so that it can accurately give heart rate. It was tough to program. It comes with instructions, but there are many little buttons that have to be pressed in a certain order to get it to register. If you hit the wrong button, which I did, it was hard to get back in to change it. Now, that I know how it all works, I'm happy I bought it. I do use it alot.

Difficult to use accurately,

This model does not have a cheast strap. It relies on the user to constantly monitor your heart rate using the finger pads on the wrist band. This is not easy or convinient during and intense workout. To get an accurate reading you would have to be doing the same activity at the same intensity for a period of time. If you change intesity you would need to be using the fingerpads constantly.

I really like not having to use a chest strap to get my heart rate when working out. I have checked the accuracy of the monitor and it is right on target. It works great, supports a very worthy cause and it's really cute too! I was a little worried about the strap size when ordering the regular vs. the petite size (based on reviews from other customers) because my wrists are 6 1/2 inches; however, I like the flexibility of being able to move my watch higher up on my arm. The strap is not too big - no matter what position I wear it in - and I like the solid pink strap better than the petite version. Definitely worth buying if you hate wearing a chest strap.
