5.0 out of 5 stars Badge of Honor Series
The whole Badge of Honor Series was absolutely wonderful and I'm a woman. The author seems to understand bureaucrats and the "system."

I have one problem and that is the women in his novels are usually too tough. Once in awhile that's OK, but every one of them are the same. Wish he'd change them once in awhile. AND his hero's fall in love with great...

3.0 out of 5 stars 30 Years Out Of Date!
Of course, Mr. Butterworth wrote these books before his very popular "Brotherhood of War" and "The Corps" series were published...but still, as a cop for over 20 years, it was hard to relate to such outdated procedures and attitudes. Soften em up Griffin.

Once I got past that, I did enjoy seeing how his characters set the stage for their doppelgangers in Brotherhood of War...Peter Wohl=Craig Lowell, and Matt Payne = Geoff Craig, etc. If you are looking for excellent, accurate police procedurals, read the Harry Bosch novels by Michael Connelly, or anything by T. Jefferson Parker. Those two really get it right.

5.0 out of 5 stars special author, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
I have all of WEB Griffins books and rate him along with Wilbur Smith as my all time favorite author. His sagas span several different action themes, but they are all either military, police or intelligence services. The author has residence both in Texas and Argentina and has spent a great deal of time with our military so he uses his familiarity with these settings and people to cast a very nice spell in his work. My wife also enjoys the books so I would say they are suitable for all readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - Typical WEB Griffin, April 25, 2010
This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
Typical WEB Griffin Book - A great read. I have been going back and ordering the entire series so I can read them in the order that they were published as the "story lines" will make more sense... but it is not necessary however.

Enjoy, I did...

5.0 out of 5 stars W. E. B. Griffin, December 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
I currently own every one of Mr. Griffin's novels. They come in about six series. This book and one other were needed to complete the set. I enjoy all of his books, but I am not sure where to rate some of them. I will say my favorite is the Badge of Honor Series about the Philadelphia Police Department (Currently an eight novel series). But right up there is his series on The (Marine)
Corps (a ten novel series currently). There is a new Badge of Honor novel coming out in June. I can't wait.

2.0 out of 5 stars men in blue, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
I was expecting to read one of the many great books written by Griffin, but this is just and average book. After reading his Presidential series, I was expecting to find a new hero to relate to, but I guess he decided to write each book with new hero's. Not my cup of tea

4.0 out of 5 stars Great characters!, February 21, 2008
This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
I read Mr. Griffin for his wonderful characters and this series about the Men in Blue in Philadelphia has plenty of them. The book is set in the 1970's so it is dated and there are no modern electronic devices to aid the police in their very difficult jobs, but they still manage to do a credible job in keeping their city safe. This is the second book in the Badge of Honor series, and I enjoyed it very much! I will admit that there is not a lot of detail mentioned in the book as to the procedures that the police use to work their cases, but that does not make it less interesting, or less exciting. As always it's the characters that steal the story. I cannot wait to read more about "Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and the Kid". (These are names that Inspector Wohl gives to two previously plain-clothes narcotics cops and their young sidekick.) I also enjoyed the spin that Griffin gives to the members of the press. Can't wait to read more.

4.0 out of 5 stars WEB Griffin always a great read, June 29, 2006

This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
This is the first WEB Griffin book that I have read that was not based on the military, so I was a little skeptical to start, but as in all my previous reads I enjoyed the heck out of it. His characters are all identifiable in fact I have met them all at some time in my not so short Life. As an ex government employee he is the best at describing the rivalries for power and the jealousy that goes with bureaucratic upheaval. The real trick is he does this with out boring us to death. All in all a great read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough, June 14, 2004
This review is from: Special Operations (Badge of Honor) (Paperback)
I enjoyed his marine corps books, but after reading 3 of his men in blue books, i'm finished with WEB. Not enough action or interesting dialogue, I had to skip several pages to get to any action. Not much happens to the characters, you'll read about them hanging out at a bar but he doesn't develop the characters like he did with The Corps.
