All In One,
By A Customer
This review is from: Special Edition Using ASP.Net (Paperback)
A Complete guide through ASP.net. This book is a good deal for the Beginner, Intermediate or the Advanced programmer looking to come over to the .net tech. The author takes you, the reader, through so much.In the beginning the author familiarizes the reader with the method in which the material will be covered, a few ASP.net startup details and an overall float through the .Net framework answering a few common questions. Once into the core material he guides the reader through the subject matter with great detail, explaining every idea that is presented. I would suggest this book to anyone looking to get started with or come over to ASP.net. Good Luck!

A worthwhile read.,

I needed to get both a function-feature overview and a working programming knowledge of .NET technology. I was looking for a book that used real-world application scenarios with sufficient step-by-step technical explanations that demonstrated how to accomplish the task. I wanted exercises that I could code and test. I wanted references to where I could find more detailed information and examples. In short, I wanted a comprehensive overview, technical reference, and self-directed learning guide. Sometimes you really do get what you wish for! This one is worth your time.

Good Book To Have,
This review is from: Special Edition Using ASP.Net (Paperback)
I have known that the day would come that I would have to move from ASP to ASP.NET. This is the book I bought to answer my questions, and it has been great. Bear in mind that I'm an ASP developer already, but this book made it easy to get up to speed developing ASP.NET applications. There's a companion Web site...where all of the program examples can be tested and viewed. This really helped me work through the chapters as I could see the applications in real time.

Finally, a book that makes you want to learn again,

'Using ASP.NET' is not just another technical publication. It is a well designed tool that will provide inspiration for anyone interested in becoming a better ASP.NET developer. If you are just tapping the surface of the .NET world, you will read a few pages of this book and want to dig deeper. If you are in a rut, 'Using ASP.NET' will give you the fresh ideas you need to make your applications do more and perform better. Either way, you'll soon find yourself developing applications you never thought were possible.I am especially impressed with 'Using ASP.NET' because the author has managed to effectively organize a wide range of topics over a wide range of skill levels. I read through it as an introduction to .NET and quickly learned to develop some pretty nice applications and make sense of the underlying code. Then, as I read deeper into the material after a couple months of practice, it was like a whole new experience. Now, I'm addicted - it is so remarkably quick and painless to consult the book for more detail about the content that I'm most interested in.

Great book on learning how to use ASP.NET,
By
This review is from: Special Edition Using ASP.Net (Paperback)
As an author myself (Inside C#), I'm often asked about ASP.NET and what books to purchase. Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend Rick's Using ASP.NET book. Not only is it great for someone who's never used ASP.NET but it includes a very impressive array of demo applications that you can either use "out of the box" or customize for your own needs. These demos include very practical applications such as how to dynamically read Web pages and retrieve and process the data your application is interested in. Therefore, with this book you're actually getting more bang for the buck than with most. You're getting a full tutorial on how to program ASP.NET and you get lots of great plug-in code. Now that's a combination you can't beat!

Nice demo programs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Special Edition Using ASP.Net (Paperback)
One of the things I always look for are demo programs that don't throw in everything but the kitchen sink. When they do, you can't understand what's being presented. This book gives a great balance of showing the topics in such a way that you don't get lost with unrelated topics. There's a support Web site with working demos, too. This makes it come alive as you read the text and try the demos online.

This book is like no other that I've used for Microsofts' new .NET technology. In reading this book when trying to learn .NET, the clarity and real-life examples are evidence of the experience the author has in writing and teaching. It makes .NET understandable!

Good Book To Transition From ASP to ASP.NET,
By "philclark14" (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Special Edition Using ASP.Net (Paperback)
I've written a lot of ASP code and this book helped me make the transition to ASP.NET. The tone and style of the writing make it easy to read, and this really helps you get through a fairly dry subject. Another thing is that the examples isolate the topic at hand instead of obfuscating the topic amongst a dozen other programming techniques.
