'The Adobe Photoshop Layers Book
'The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements
'Special Edition Using Photoshop 6
'Adobe Photoshop 5 How-To

These books teach advanced techniques for image editing and provide custom-made tools that simplify the most difficult image editing processes and make them accessible to anyone. Richard has been a columnist for Digital Photography Techniques, has written for many magazines including Popular Photography, PCPhoto, Photography Techniques, Advanced Photoshop, and more. He has taught digital rendering at Daemen College in New York, and teaches courses online at betterphoto.com.

Richard's photography tends toward the abstract and experimental, often using unusual editing processes as well as unusual equipment. His Sigma SD10 often sports common Sigma lenses, but can be fitted with an old bellows, extension tubes and an assortment of M42 screw-mount lenses. In processing and prints, he often attempts to push the limits of digital rendering using his experience with the medium. 5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a book on Photoshop that is completely thorough, March 16, 2001

I am a long-time Photoshop user and bookstore junky. Over the years, I have been on a mission to find a book on Photoshop that not only describes the functionality in a clear and concise way, but also puts its usefullness into context. All of this in one volume? I didn't think it possible.

For instance, you will be hard-pressed to find any useful information out there about using spot color channnels that even approaches the excellent explanation in this book. Also, there are a multiplicity of interesting and off-the-beaten-track ideas on how to maximize the implemententation of some the more common tools

I only bought it last week and already it is the most thumbed-through book in my reference library. Whenever I'm hit with a challenging project, I look to this book alone for inspiration. Not only that, but the author's Web site is a treasure trove of useful information and resources. Richard, the author, is a genius at cutting through all the psychobabble and getting right down to the meat of matter.

I cannot recommend this book enough.

I admit to being a Photoshop book junkie (well, book junkie in general!) For some reason I resisted buying this book for a while, but one day, on impulse, I did. I am very glad I did. I have not finished it yet, but so far, I am impressed. The writing is in a clear style that is easy to understand, and it covers other important aspects to Photoshop (and digital imaging-related topics) that I haven't seen in my other Photoshop books. It has ample images and screenshots, all in the appropriate places, which makes learning and understanding easier. Also, there is a "troubleshooting" feature scattered throughout the book, where the author answers commonly encountered problems. I discovered many answers to things I had been wondering about, while just thumbing through this book! I am really glad I bought this book on impulse, I think I made a wise choice.

Another thing that impresses me - the special website for users of this book, ps6.com. (Any Photoshop user can access most of the site, though.) It has the sample files you'll want to use when going through some of the book's step-by-step tutorials. (No need for a bundled CD, the sample files are on the site! You will need a password that is found in the book to get to the images, though.) I really was impressed that the author took the trouble to have a special site for this book's readers. The author seems committed to his readers, and in providing a helpful, comprehensive and informative book.

WOW! This is an amazing book! I love doing stuff with computers I'm still in highschool and I like buying books that I can go through to learn things. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or an expert at photoshop this is a great book to buy. It is long but when you look at it its well organized so you can either go through it chapter by chapter as a tutorial or just go to the table of contents and flip to the page that you need. After each chapter it has instructions to do an excercise that requires use of all the topics covered in the chapter!! It is amazing. Lynch even made a website where you can download workbook files and even e-mail the author. If you buy only one photoshop book make it this one.
