A Must-Have Book for Newbies and Experts, February 11, 2002
This review is from: Special Edition Using Corel WordPerfect 10 (Paperback)
Having been using WordPerfect from 4.2 through this most recent edition (Version 10, Service Pack 2), I consider myself a WordPerfect expert--and rightfully so. As such, I never thought there was a need to read any reference book. However, my closed-mindedness has caused me to miss out many of the new and very useful features of this newest WordPerfect--until I sat down and read a copy this book that I received from Amazon. (Again, another very pleasant experience of doing business at Amazon.com.)
Because this is the only book that covers SP2, it is also the only place where you can find discussions on one of the best features of the "new" WP10--clipbook. The clipbook feature allows you to do multiple cuts/copies and pastes in the same session, and is a must-have if you frequently do extensive document editing.
On the other hand, do you know that you can save your company letter head or logo as a "Quickword", and later instantly insert it into your document whenever and whereever it is desired, without any effort what-so-ever?
Do you know that you can do a merge operation which can send your customized letters to targeted addressees via e-mail?
Do you know that the graphic capabilities of our beloved WordPerfect have so drastically improved (and with all the included symbols, etc.) that you don't need VISIO (which costs several times the cost of the WP2K2 suite) to create impressive reports?
The list goes on and on and you can find all the answers in this book.
Unlike another WP10 book, the so-called "Official Guide", which is embarrassingly full of omissions and/or errors, this book is extremely accurate, and covers the most up-to-date information. The first six chapters of this book (about 185 pages) give an excellent overview of the most important features of the new WP10. For those who are only interested in a "For Dummies" type book, this introductory part is better than anything you can find. Later on, when you become serious about further improving your skill, every page of this 800-plus-page book is full of useful information that you will find greatly beneficial.
As a long-time WordPerfect user, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Read it, and you will see why many of us persistently consider WordPerfect to be superior to Microsoft Office--nothing compares to WordPerfect, but we need a well-written book to help us show others so. In fact, not only I am recommending this book, I am also begging you to buy it, buy the WordPerfect Office, and buy them from Amazon.com. They all need our support!

A must-have for anyone using WordPerfect, May 21, 2002
This review is from: Special Edition Using Corel WordPerfect 10 (Paperback)
Another excellent entry in Acklen and Gilgen's series for WordPerfect, suberb for learning WordPerfect or as a reference on using its many features. Even though I'm a long-time WordPerfect user, I find the book invaluable. It's well-organized and clearly written with a touch of fun. I particularly appreciate that the authors' go beyond the usual click-here, check-that approach of most manuals and built-in help to explain how to get real work done in the real world. Highly recommended.

One minor complaint, September 30, 2002
This review is from: Special Edition Using Corel WordPerfect 10 (Paperback)
The book was excellent. I am a left brain type who likes to read through each bit and I found the explanation was simple but very effective. The hundreds of tips alone made it worth the money. So the one complaint .... ?
I am a Maths teacher and use the Equation Editor as much as any other feature - it gets ONE mention in the 756 pages and that is just to refer to the fact that there is an editing mode called "Equation Editor".
OK maybe Laura and Read don't have much need for writing equations but they might have found someone who does. Actually I have been using the Equation Editor for years and thought I knew everything there was to know but version 10 has some differences and I had hoped the book would help point them out. I guess I'll have to find out the hard way, again.
