An utter calamity!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Special Edition Using Microsoft Frontpage 97 (Paperback)
I've read some excellent books from QUE and I must say that this book was a true dissappointment. It is quite evident that several authors contributed to this work which resulted in a lack of consistency between different sections and chapters. There were several instances in the book in which an editor would write comments intended to be seen only by the author for clarification that was accidentally published instead and should not have been. For a few examples see p. 736, 747 where the reader can read comments left by a person named Kyle, which I presume to be an editor written to the author. Not enough attention to detail was given in the sections pertaining to VBscript and JScript. The author of that section writes in such an esoteric way that the reader almost has to already know Visual Basic or Java to be able to understand the programming samples. Overall, the organization of the book was good. However, that alone cannot overcome the mistakes, lack of consistency throughout the book, and poor explanations of the programming samples.

I wrote Chapter 11 on HTML. When I saw the whole book, I was thrilled that I had been asked to be part of it

A book for only beginners but priced for experts.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Special Edition Using Microsoft Frontpage 97 (Paperback)
Although I'm a big fan of Que's books on computing
and programming, this Special Edition Using Microsoft Front Page was the most disappointing
book I've ever purchased from them. It's priced
in the upper range but doesn't even compete on par with the other books for novices. Over the 400 pages in the book, I'd estimate that 100 are just
trivial discussions about what HTML and Internet
basics are. The worst aspect of the book is its examples. Say, for example, you want to insert a
survey form in your web site. If you follow ANY of the examples in this book, you only get one-third of the process -- leaving the reader in the dark how to implement the other 2/3's of the process and make the programming successful. Save your money on this one.

Get Stanek's FrontPage 97 Unleashed Instead!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Special Edition Using Microsoft Frontpage 97 (Paperback)
I don't have impressive credintials. I'm just your average Joe (or Thomas as it were) but I suffered through this book for weeks, so I believe my opinion should count for something. This book focuses on basics, doesn't really go into the neat features of FrontPage 97, and is extremely boring. Unfortunatley for a long time I thought it was my fault but then I found Stanek's wonderful book FrontPage 97 Unleashed. Definitely get that book instead

Most comprehensive FrontPage 97 book available,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Special Edition Using Microsoft Frontpage 97 (Paperback)
I've read this book, and it by far the most comprehensive book available on Microsoft FrontPage 97. Also thoroughly covers Microsoft Image Composer (which comes with FrontPage 97), advanced HTML topics, publishing your web site, etc. It's a hefty book (1003 pages!), but it's excellent, well-written, and authoritative. I highly recommend it.

Warning: CDRom Has NOTHING About FrontPage.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Using Microsoft Frontpage: Special Edition (Special Edition Using) (Paperback)
I purchased this book thinking that the CDRom contained information about FrontPage, possibly templates or other useful material. Wrong! Just brief reviews of other tools and general Web info. FrontPage97 is now out so buy a book with " 97 " in the title

CD-ROM Disappointing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Using Microsoft Frontpage: Special Edition (Special Edition Using) (Paperback)
While this book is a pretty decent overview of FrontPage, Ingram's description is wrong. The CD-ROM contains NO addtional Templates, Wizards, or Bots, and in fact I would put the CD-ROM in the "shovelware" category

Excellent Reference,

This review is from: Using Microsoft Frontpage: Special Edition (Special Edition Using) (Paperback)
I found this book an excellent reference for anyone looking
to get up and running with FrontPage quickly. Well laid out
and well written, short but informative and to the point,
Using FrontPage is a great way to begin creating well
designed and functional web pages.
