The Best Wok I'd Ever Have,
By
This review is from: T fal Specialty 14-Inch Nonstick Jumbo Wok, Black (Kitchen)
I cook Chinese food everyday. However, it's very difficult to find a good wok here in US. I have shopped around and used many different woks since I came to US 13 years ago.
I got a T-Fal fry pan last year from a friend. It works great. Therefore, I was looking for a wok from T-Fal. I couldn't find it from the local stores. Finally, I found it at Amazon. When it arrived, I was surprised how beautiful it is. I tried it immediately. It works perfectly. Finally, I don't have to do the "wok hunting" again!

Best Wok I have ever owned!,
This review is from: T fal Specialty 14-Inch Nonstick Jumbo Wok, Black (Kitchen)
I have owned...and disposed... of many woks. But this one is by far, the best! The heat remains even during cooking, it is durable and is easy to clean. Don't waste your money elsewhere.

Original post on 1/4/11: What I like most about this wok is its excellent non-stick coating. I use it everyday with wooden spatula. Wouldn't risk to use metal utensil although the product description says ok. I stir fry rice cake (very sticky) and gladly found the wok really non-stick. Extremely easy to clean. It's wide enough but a little too shallow (3" in depth) comparing to other 14" wok in the market. The bottom is very slippery on stove top. Make sure you hold the handle when you stir or turn the food.
2/10/11 update: Very disappointed to find many scratches after 1 month. I use it with wooden utensil only and clean it with a sponge. For the health of my family, I had to throw it away when the Teflon came off. I hope this once-so-great wok last longer.

I've had quite a few T-Fal frying pans over the years and was always pleased. I cook Chinese occasionally and when I saw this one I figured that I'd give it a shot, and I'm glad I did.
It is large, well made as usual with T-Fal, fairly heavy-duty and heats evenly. I will be ordering a lid as this wok does not come with one - there are generic wok-lids to be had if you search for them, or if you have a large eough frying pan the lid may be interchangeable. The long and helper handles are put on well with rivets rather than screws, and the flat bottom sits well on the burner without wobbling or need of a ring. The wok is aluminum with a pretty decent non-stick, but please - make sure no metal utensils are used on this as the coating will scratch easily. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wok+lid Net-net - nice wok for the money, particularly if you're interested in cutting fats from the diet - the nonstick has many advantages - it allows for much less oil and although it isn't as traditional as the carbon-steel models I've had, it's better made than some, and won't rust as some of the carbon steel woks tend to do (even if they're seasoned properly). Some carbon steel models come with non-stick, but non-stick doesn't adhere well to them, while on aluminum it tends to last longer. The flat bottom will also work on an electric stove, while the round bottom woks can reflect heat back onto the burner element, causing damage.

Best "Wok" Ever - East meets West,
By
This review is from: T fal Specialty 14-Inch Nonstick Jumbo Wok, Black (Kitchen)
A "wok" is a Chinese frying pan and the generic term "frying pan" (in English) is generally used to denote a Sauté pan. This T-fal "wok" is a perfect fusion of the two and once you own one and learn how to use it, you probably won't need another pan (unless it's a duplicate T-fal wok).
I lived in China for 9 years and recently moved back stateside. I stayed with my folks for a bit and was forced to revert to the crude, [ironically] antiquated Sauté pan. After a few cooking sessions with more ingredients spilt next to the burner rather that in the pan, I tossed up my arms and headed to the store. I bought this pan and have since fell in love. I wash it like a man waxing his dream car, while thanking it for a delightful meal because it surely wasn't my talent. The great thing to notice about this pan versus the others is its weight. It's 2.6 pounds. Take a look around at other 14-inch pans. None of them even come close and are more than likely at least double the weight. Cooking is a lot of fun and I really enjoy flipping things without a spatula! Well, I'm not doing that with a 10-pound pan. Its only handicap is as you've probably already guessed - its lack of a lid. Oh how I curse you T-fal, a sandwich without mayo, a new toy without batteries, a yin without its yang. Fortunately, the workaround is not clever. After purchasing this pan, you will most likely have a legacy pan that will now have little use other than providing you with a lid that's hopefully 12 inches or larger. Finally I can make great omelettes, letting the egg circle around the slightly sloping edges which then make it an ease to close up the side. Yesterday I boiled spaghetti, drained it, lightly fried the pasta, and finally added sauce. One second under running water and the pan is clean.

I am so glad I bought this wok. It's the best one I owed ever. It is very easy to clean and I can throw it into the dishwasher. Food isn't sticking and I like the little red dot that tells you the wok is hot. I will never use another wok again. Just make sure to use silicon stirring spoons on it or you will scratch the nonstick coating. Love it.

Very light weight,

The main thing I noticed when using this is how light it is, which is pretty nice when you are flipping your stir fry in the wok.
This wok is very large and distributes the heat evenly, which means I had to use high heat. I've only used it once, but so far it's been great! |
