I read this quite quickly. The story is rather weak and his characterization of the wife is annoying. The story takes too long to get going and then it's half-over. It is not extremely satisfying or interesting, and doesn't really make too much sense. I recommend Saberhagen's Empire of the East or perhaps some of his other (many) books.
