Great all-around protection for your iPod Touch,
By Sam Kimpton "Geek" (Raleigh, North Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Speck ArmorSkin Case for iPod touch 1G (Black) (Electronics)
The Speck ArmorSkin case for iPod Touch is a rubberized plastic polymer sleeve that hugs the iTouch perfectly. The sleeve leaves only the glass screen unprotected; luckily, the case includes a screen protector that sticks on with very little effort.
The case material is not quite as "smushy" or flexible as silicone, but this should help prevent tearing. The case is also a bit thicker than some silicone cases, but it doesn't add too much bulk to the iTouch's profile. With the case, your iTouch will be about as thick as an iPhone. Silicone cases are known for being lint-magnets. The Speck ArmorSkin fares a bit better in this regard. After a week of using the case, it was still pretty clean. The ArmorSkin's "grippy" textured back makes it easy to hold into, and the material has just enough give to provide some shock protection. The case material is thinnest where it covers the Home button. This means that pressing the button through the case skin is just as easy to do as if there were no skin. Access to the top button is also not hampered. The case does not cover the area above the screen that contains the light sensor, but this area is covered by the included screen protector. The case provides access to the headphone and dock port via a cutout which reveals about 80% of the bottom surface of the ipod. The edge of the cutout near the headphone jack comes pretty close to the jack itself, so some headphones with bulkier plugs and might push the edge of the case aside, but the case is flexible enough that this shouldn't cause any problems. Aesthetically, the case does give a bit more of a masculine look to the iTouch -- whether this is a plus or a minus is subjective -- the textured back is reminiscent of ceramic tile or the surface of an all-terrain tire. The surface of the case has a pleasant, satiny feel. The only downside to the Speck ArmorSkin case is that its thickness means that you'll have to remove it before using the iTouch in a sport armband, but that goes for just about any protective case. This is not a big deal though, as it's very easy to remove the iTouch from the case. Overall, the Speck ArmorSkin is a good balance of protection versus aesthetics. It will help protect your iTouch's mirror finish without hurting the thing profile of the iTouch.

Excellent protection for your Ipod,
By Jose Carreno "Jose Carreno" (Venezuela) - See all my reviews

I highly recommend this case since it provides a great protection for your Ipod. Besides, it also includes a screen protector like a transparent sticker which provides an extra protection for any scratch on your screen. In summary, extra protection for your ipod at great price.

Also fits 32 GB,
This review is from: Speck ArmorSkin Case for iPod touch 1G (Black) (Electronics)
I have the 32 GB iTouch and this case definitely fits. I'm not sure why the description says only the 8 and 16 GB.
This case is everything I expected. I only wish there were more color choices (black, camo and clear...wtf?).

Call it a Tire, a Pineapple, or a Tactical skin. I Call it Awesome.,

The Speck ArmorSkin is nearly perfect. The soft-touch rubberized tiles that coat the surface of the case look cool and, more importantly, they are very protective.
Once encased, the iPod takes on a much sturdier feel, and the armor tile design does that without adding significant bulk or weight. The tiles also provide excellent "gripyness" (scientific term). The difference between the melted pat of butter that is a naked iPod Touch and the secure futuristic piece of hardware that is a ArmorSkin-ed iPod Touch is literally night and day. My only gripes are that the included screen protector is garbage, and I wish the case didn't cover the home button. But, those are trivial concerns. The bottom line is that if you're interested in putting your beautiful new Touch in a case that retains "pocketability", protects it from damage and looks high-tech, then this is the case you've been looking for.

This case is awesome. Sure, it's kind of expensive, but so is an iPod Touch.
It covers the bottom & top buttons of the Touch, but doesn't effect their operation. The included screen protector is fairly easy to install, and doesn't effect the operation of the touch screen at all. Still, the softest touch activates screen commands. The slot cut out on the bottom for the headphones & iPod connector is fine. My headphone plug is wider than the slot, but a little twist while inserting it pushes the rubber out of the way. The rubber is quite pliable, but it doesn't feel cheap. I would not describe it as "grippy" either. With the ArmorSkin installed I can slide it into and out of a nylon case I have to keep it in, with ease. To me, it has a suede feel. It's soft to the touch, but not "mushy". A few taps on the desk tells you that it is well protected. The grip pattern reminds me of the old pineapple grenades (Cool). With the ArmorSkin, the Touch looks almost tactical! It grips very well in the hand and I would say that it has a decidedly masculine look. Definitely recommended.

best case for ipod touch,
By E.H "game/magic buyer and pro" (israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Speck ArmorSkin Case for iPod touch 1G (Black) (Electronics)
This case is by far the best case for the apple ipod touch for a number of reasons:
1-its fairly inexpensive (20$) and comes with a screen protector 2-it provides the best protection for the ipod touch because the cover has a "strip" of silicone the is a bit higher on the front of the ipod so if you accidently drop it it will land on the silicone and not on the screen. 3-it has a very grippable back surface with grenade like marking, to makie it easyer 2 grip. there are only two cons i can think of 1-if u bought mini speakers then it will be pretty hard to fit it in the back. 2-the protector has a strip of silicone that gaurds the front home button but not the top so u can see the black part on the top where the screen ends. all in all i think this is a very good producat for the price.

Works great and looks rugged,
This review is from: Speck ArmorSkin Case for iPod touch 1G (Black) (Electronics)
I realy like the overall feel and quality of this case. It comes with a screen protector but I ended up pitching that as it did not apply well and seemed to be of poor quality. I ended up getting a different screen protector (Power Support Crystal Film)and using that in conjunction with this case.
I also purchased one of the iSkin protective cases (cost more!) but did not like the finish nor quality on that nearly as much as this ArmorSkin case. The iSkin case continues to sit unused in a drawer. I think you will be very happy with the ArmorSkin case as it is easy to put on and off when needed (like docking with my im600 speakers) and provides full functionality and access to your touch when it is on. Would also highly recommend that you use the Power Support Crystal Film screen overlay instead of the overlay provided with the ArmorSkin. Even considering that I give this 5 stars.

Good for iPod Touch 2G,
By Jeepster (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews

I got this to protect my New iPod Touch 2G (new generation). It fits really good considering that it is made for the first generation Touch. The only drawback is that the screen protector isn't easy to put on. In fact, I couldn't get it to work at all, but I bought it for the rubber protection anyway.

Fairly good protection (so far),
By Adam F. (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews

I've been using this cover for about a month now and so far it has been fine. The instructions were a little lacking for how to place the clear plastic protector over the screen -- I think I used the right one. The film has a clear plastic backing and I chose to use the thicker one, but maybe I was suppsoed to use the thinner one. But it doesn't seem to affect touch functionality.
The rubber case is great and will probably give some great protection. The data port and headphone jack are exposed, though, so if you keep the iPod in your pocket, I would go with a different case due to lint build-up. I keep mine typically in my bag, though, so don't have this problem yet. When hitting the sleep/power button, the case flexes quite a bit which makes me think it will probably start to rip/crumble in that area first. But I've only had it a month and so far it's fine.

This case was pretty much what I was looking for. I had already bought a screen cover so this took care of the rest. There are 2 skins included, a black and a white (I wish they would have cut the price and only gave me 1).
Also it seemed the description eluded to the material being more rigid if I remember. It is just rubber, although thicker than typical silicone cases. Good product. |
