Great Case for my Teenage Son,

This review is from: Speck CandyShell Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black/Gray) (Electronics)
UPDATE: January 12 2011
I adjusted the case review down from 5 to 2 stars due to a consistent flaw of this case. The bottom part of the case constantly breaks off (this has happened to two originals and two replacements). There is a very thin piece of plastic at the bottom which covers the space between the screen and the dock port. This has broken off for both my son and daughter's iPods. It is non-reinforced plastic and it flexes and breaks easily. This should have some sort of integrated reinforcement in order to prevent this breakage. I also bought a similar case for my iPhone (which I reviewed) and have the same issue. The rubber ring on that case however is still intact while the plastic has broken. I would NOT recommend this line of cases to anyone. The case looks great and feels great however it looks horrible when the bottom breaks off as mentioned. --Original review-- I bought an iPod Touch for my son's 18th birthday. He has a history of breaking things which are bought for him ad so I was concerned about the survivability of his new 32 GB iPod. I stopped by an Apple store and heard the salesman suggest this case to someone else. He explained that it was durable and that he also uses it. I really like the case. It fits to the iPod Touch snugly and securely and offers great protection. I particularly like that it doesn't overlap the screen and allows me to make full, unobstructed use of the screen. I have an iPhone 3GS and use a different case for it and I really dislike the rubber overhang around the edge of the screen as it significantly impacts my ability to type. (I will be ordering one of the CandyShell cases for my iPhone next!) The case looks sharp and has a soft interior to help absorb impact should the phone be dropped. The screen protector works great (make sure you wipe all dust etc. off the screen or you'll get little air bubbles). The buttons work very well. Choosing a case is a tough decision. It's an individual choice based upon many factors. If you are looking for a solid case which looks and feels great and also offers excellent protection, then this is the one for you! I would suggest this case over the others which I have looked at.

Best Case for Touch 2G/3G,
This review is from: Speck CandyShell Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black/Gray) (Electronics)
After trying many many cases for the iPod touch 3G I think this has to be the best case out there. It has the best of both worlds (part hard shell and part soft silicone). It looks really nice and stylish. Makes the iPod touch easier to hold and use. Also comes with the screen protector which I havent tried yet since Im using my power support one. The case does add a little bit of bulk to the iPod but I think it worth it considering the protection and better grip. This is is hard to put on and especially hard to take off. So if your going to be talking it out and putting it on then I suggest not getting this case. In my case the iPod fits fine into my iHome iP9 speaker/dock with the case so theres no need to take the case out ever. I chose the black/grey since it looks a little more subtile than the black/yellow, also the yellow will fade more over time with use. Also the back of the case will scratch easily and the bottom near the dock seems very flimsy so be careful and take care of it. Other than that I can finally say I am satisfied with this case. I have tried the following cases before this one: Power support Air jacket, iSkin Vibes , Incase Slider Case and Griffin Elan Form Leather Hard Case. My only other gripe would be the price I ended up paying $40 for mine. Wouldnt suggest paying anything more than $30 for this case then it would be a really good deal and worth the money.

So Far The Best I've Tried - The Search is Over,
This review is from: Speck CandyShell Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black/Gray) (Electronics)
This case plus a screen saver overlay of your choice is all you need to protect you iphone. Sure there are cases that offer more security (think Otter Defender) but it comes at the cost of ease of using the on screen keypad as the case obstructs you thumbs from getting down to the bottom row of keys. This case doesn't have that problem as it's quite slim around the screen edges. I really like the soft center in the hard outer case design. Soft outer cases pick up too much pocket lint if they end up in and out of your pocket all day. Again, that won't happen with this case. Very satisfied with this product and it's one of the best Iphone/Ipod accessories I've ever purchased.

The Speck CandyShell is a well designed case for the iPod Touch 3G. It covers the iPod, and protects from impacts. I've had one major drop onto asphalt in a parking lot. The iPod landed solidly on one of the corners, and would certainly have been damaged if not for this case. The case took a minor scuff to the bottom corner, but still looks good.
I have the black and grey finish, and it's held up pretty well so far. Since it's a shiny finish, it's developed some scuffs and scratches on it, but it's protecting the iPod inside. And that's what counts. If you need to remove your iPod from the case frequently, I might not recommend this case. It's somewhat hard to remove, and I wonder if repeated removal might eventually damage the case. I don't use a dock, so this has not been a problem for me. You'll also find that some of the fatter headset connectors might interfere with the case. I had to change the line in cable on one of our cars, because the connecter was too fat to clear the edges of the case. But most of the cables that you'll buy these days should work without problems. The case came with a screen protector which I tried out, but decided not to use. It had a very subtle pattern to it, which detracted from the view of the screen. It's also very hard to apply these without at least one bubble in them somewhere, which would drive me nuts. Since the screen is glass, I'm not that worried about damaging it. The buttons are fully covered with this case, but I've not found them difficult to use at all. They're easy to find by touch, and are still pretty easy to push. All in all, a good case for my iPod touch. It comes in lots of colors, it's reasonably priced, protects well, and is pretty durable so far. I would have considered a five star review for this case, but since it's the first one I've gotten for my iPod, I thought I didn't have enough experience to rate it higher.

I have had this case for about 3 months, and it is already broken. Just as a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, this case's useful life is limited by the weak bar of plastic/rubber that goes across the bottom of your device. The stresses of putting it in and out of my backpack, and putting my headphones over it seem to have been too much for the little guy. It really is too bad, because otherwise the case is great. I would hope that Speck might be able to engineer a different solution in the future, maybe making the lower piece only rubber, so that it didn't fracture after being bent too many times.

After two months of use, as a few other reviewers have noticed, the front bottom "bar" of this case broke. It is a very thin strip of gray plastic that snapped in half. I contacted the seller, who told me to contact the manufacturer as it was purchased more than 30 days ago. Not only a hassle, but for $21.95 the best I would get is a replacement, which will break in the very same place again once it is out of the 30 day warranty period. Every other aspect of this case is great. If it were not for this one design flaw, I wouldn't hesitate to give this product five stars. For what I paid, I expect something that will last longer than two months.

Good case with a design flaw,

This case will protected your ipod touch very well while allowing you easy access to the device while in a pocket. The edges and body of the case protect against short falls and drops and the screen protector provides general protection from abrasion.
There is only one problem with this case. And that's the bottom case edge. The edge near the home button is very thin, and in less than two months it has broken leaving the front bottom edge of my touch exposed. While Speck is really good with customer service and warranty issues and I could likely get a replacement, a new case will just have the same problem in a matter of months. Even though I think this is a significant design mistake, it's a quality case and I am quite happy with the product. If you have an iphone, Speck would be my only choice.

For iPod Touch 3G:
Pros: -Cheap -Hard case is easier to slip in and out of pocket and protects better than soft rubber. -Protects from scratches on back of iPod Cons: -The port end (between the home button and bottom of iPod Touch)is very thin and will eventually break off, which will probably not affect the overall safety of the iPod Touch. -It is hard to put iPod in and out of case (Good for protection; bad for admiring the protection of the scratch-less iPod). Also: -The Speck symbol on the back of the cover can be converted into the coat-of-arms of the Empire from the Star Wars series with some Sharpie work... which is completely bad-ass. Overall, good product for the price.

Thought this was one of the better cases. Broke on corner near plug in port after 2 months. Could have bought a cheaper one for the short life.

Good but it has a big weakness,

It's a great case but it breaks at the bottom where the plastic/rubber is thinner. I paid close to $30 for this at Target and I am not happy. I babied it too and it broke so I decided to look up reviews on Amazon and I see it's a common complaint. Sigh.
