5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent protection for your MacBook Pro
I go to school with a few students who have MacBook Pros, both the 15 and 17 inch models. I've seen what happens when you cart them around in backpacks unprotected. Such an expensive machine is worth protecting, and this case is perfect for the job. It weighs the MacBook Pro down a little but nothing too serious. Having the plastic on the lid unbalances the hinge slightly...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Protection.
Great Protection. However, the plastic protection does not allow you to push your computer screen back as far as it can go. Both pieces block this from happening.

Having the plastic on the lid unbalances the hinge slightly - it's easier to close and doesn't spring itself open. After just two weeks of use I can see the plastic getting scratched - a perfect indicator of what would be marring the beautiful MacBook Pro finish without the Speck case to protect it.

I bought this case on recommendation from my boss and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a MacBook Pro. Protect your investment! It looks sleek too.

My only real complaint is that the case half covering the lid of the notebook doesn't fit exactly right. I have to push it back on every few days because it unhooks itself from one corner.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Own A 17" MacBook Pro, You NEED This Product!, June 2, 2007
By
My favorite MBP accessory! After spending $3000 on this laptop, I don't want any nasty scratches on it. It installed in about 30 seconds and it has stayed very securely in place for 3 weeks so far. No port or button is blocked by this case. Finally, it makes my MBP look GORGEOUS! Now it looks glossy silver, rather than bland grey. I probably would have bought a hot pink one if available, but after seeing the colorless one on my Mac, I don't think I'd trade if I could.

Steve Jobs should include this product with every new 17" MBP!

1.0 out of 5 stars After two years this product may gradually break the screen casing, good company though, October 31, 2008
Length:: 1:08 Mins

UPDATE: I was ultimately able to find an authorized Mac repairer that fixed the damage under my apple care at no cost to me. Also, I spoke with Speck products and though I still find this product a bit poorly conceived, the company was EXTREMELY helpful and willing to help out. So I have no problem giving Speck, the company, a positive recommendation. It's nice to see a company that will stand by their product - a rarity nowadays.

Everyone who is thinking of buying or has bought this product needs to see this review. The Macbook Pro is not designed to take any pressure from opening the screen against the dark grey outer edge. This product creates new pressure points that can gradually cause severe damage over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, July 25, 2007
Very very good cover for the MacBook Pro 17". I use my laptop in a band and it had taken a couple of nasty spills resulting in a couple of small dents and many scratches so I needed something. This thing works perfect. It looks very clean, is super easy to install, and very strong. A little pricey but worth it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some Like It Hot?, October 24, 2007

I'm not so sure it's a good idea to cover a MBP with one of these. By nature, the Macbook's aluminum casing keeps it cool, but with the Speck case hugging the surface so tightly, I found my own machine to get quite warm to the touch after just a few minutes.

Despite what Speck says, plastic cannot breathe.

I just wanted to take a moment to say that this product is very well made, and amazingly precise in its fit of my 17" MacBook Pro. I'd recently purchased another Speck cover for my wife's new MacBook Air, and had been impressed with that, so I was hoping this would indicate a similar fit for my computer, and it was. Some folks have said they were not thrilled with the limited opening of the screen, but the screen opens 120+ degrees, which is as far as I opened my screen even before the Speck was put on. The temperature issue may be problem in the long term, but the plastic will certainly do some level of conduction (the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars), but my thought is that it's worth protecting this very expensive laptop. I'd highly recommend these cases. By the way, for those who are 'into' the Mac look (brushed aluminum), the clear case doesn't get in the way of the beauty of the machine at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, Though Slightly Inhibiting, August 28, 2008
I was pleased to see the case was largely what I expected to find. The ports were well designed, ventilation (the chief concern of most shoppers) has been no problem, and it snaps on and off easy enough.

My only complaint is that, due to the way the hinge on the MacBook Pro is designed, the screen cannot tilt as far back with the case attached. The added thickness to the screen and lower portion of the computer cause them to meet at the back when you try to adjust the screen. Someone who doesn't know this, perhaps a co-worker using your computer, could unknowingly put a great deal of torque on the screen hinge by pushing it back toward where it should be able to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, July 6, 2008
I was a bit skeptical and concerned with heat & ventilation, but after a couple of months of hard use & careful monitoring, it has not been a problem at all. The case works just as advertised.. very simple, basic, functional & sexy. Chicks dig it. Just what I needed to protect a serious investment... I was also concerned with the top not being able to fully open, and it is true it is slightly limited, but only slightly, and it has not been a problem. Get it. For the $$$, it's a great deal. I plan on buying another for a second machine. I held back one star till they make it so the top DOES open fully.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet case., August 3, 2007
I bought the Mac Book Pro 17" and with all of that soft aluminum was concerned of getting scratches and marks in what truly is the best looking machine I have ever had. The product is a nice tight fitting, polycarbonate cover that is light and picks up all the scratches. I will be buying another when my vanity starts to pick up and I want to make my mac book look pristine again.
