I got this case based on multiple reviews and recommendations. It looks and feels great. It protects the laptop well.

The only problem that I have is that it seems to hold the heat in the computer. If I start watching netflix, it warms up quickly and stays hot. Yes, I realize that graphics and processor intensive tasks will build up heat, but this was crazy. The fans would kick on and run near maximum. This would drain the battery pretty quickly. I could barely get a movie done on full charge and my battery has less than 100 cycles on it.

I pulled the case off for a few weeks to see if made a difference. I have my macbook pro back. No overheating. No fan noise. My battery performance has doubled.

The case protects like it is supposed to and it is very good looking, but the performance issues are not worth it for me.

I purchased this one after seeing the same one and it lead me to this link saying it was a "newer" version. Doubt theres a difference but it was $5 cheaper so I went with it. I had read previous reviews for the other style that had mostly positive reviews except that one pesky "most helpful critical" review that leaves doubt in your mind. So after some thought I decided to just go with it. I tend to do intense research on things before I purchase them and I never ever write the reviews but I'm so happy with this case I had to put all of the doubts out of anyones mind. Nothing is perfect so there are a couple concerns I've had so far (note that I've only had it a couple days)

First off, I have pets and because the case is satiny the hair doesn't just breeze past it. I have to wipe it off every so often along with the other fuzzes that show up, maybe because I got the purple (which is the most beautiful rich deep purple I might add) so these things show up more than say a lighter color. The one thing about another review I read was that there was a bit of gapping between the case and actual computer and yes that is true but if you follow the directions of taking it off and wiping it out once a month I don't see that being a super issue. Other reviews also commented on the case making it heavier, I don't notice a huge difference and it doesn't impede the screen hinge at all, it's not falling up or down, it stays where I want it. And to address the scratching and markings of the case concerns, I plan on using this to supplement an actual sleeve, it's easier to replace a scratched case, not so easy to fix a scratched up MacBook.

Ultimately these minor details are a small price to pay for protection of such an expensive investment. I love it. End of story. Don't hesitate, its a good case.

The pictures above of the case make it seem as if the case was a light smooth purple color but it is not. I knew this since I had seen the case in person on a friends macbook pro. The true color of the case is a really dark, dark purple. Even in direct sunlight it still looks like a dark purple. I love the color but just letting people know before they buy the case thinking its a soft light purple. Its a soft case on the outside but its sturdy plastic on the inside. The case can easily get scratched but thats what its for, right? to protect your macbook. Anyways, it looks cool and doesnt add weight or size to the mac. Still looks pretty compact. Im glad I purchased this case. My one and only negative would be that the box the case came in was kinda dusty and made the case look like it was old and used, even though it was new. It has vents on the bottom and the apple logo is still clearly visible through the case when the computer is on. The instructions say you need to remove the whole case once a month and clean it so the dirt that gets inside wont scratch up your mac. Thats pretty much it. Just be wary of the actual color. The same can be said for the other speck satin cases. The colors for the red, green and orange all look soft and light but theyre all darker.. Ive seen these colors in person as well. Hope this helps.
