I have a fourth gen, 40GB iPod. These skins are a joke ~ remember when OJ Simpson couldn't fit that glove on his hand during his murder trial? Same thing here. I have absolutely no doubt that this skin was made for the smaller 20GB iPod and the marketing people at Speck decided to tout it as working for both the 20 and 40GB models. Those models are different sizes!

Okay, so you can get the skin on, but the flap at the bottom which is designed to open so that you can dock your iPod doesn't close all the way, leaving the lower back part of the iPod exposed. In addition, because the skin is so tight it doesn't sit "squarely" on the iPod. The skin is simply too small. I had read this same thing in a review on another site but wanted to make up my own mind. Well, I should have listened...

Personally, I'd also like to see a thin transparent cover for the iPod's screen, although I knew this product didn't have that when I bought it.

I returned my Speck skin the day after I got it, and my search for a good all-around iPod skin continues...

These Speck skins are designed to provide a translucent, rubbery protective layer to 20 GB and 40 GB iPods, models that are prone to scratching and collecting fingerprints. The circular cut-out in the front allows for complete, unobstructed access to the click wheel. Likewise, the screen and the top, where the headphones are plugged in, are exposed. The dock port is covered by a portion that can be easily folded back to expose it for ease of charging. Even the areas that are exposed, however, are protected, as the silicon provides cushioned space around them, preventing accidental contact. While the rubber texture makes it more difficult to inadvertently pull the iPod off a smooth surface, it also makes it more difficult to slip into a pocket.

Wipe all fingerprints off your iPod before putting on the skin, as you're unlikely to want to take it off once you get it on. Because the width fits the iPod perfectly, you'll have to wiggle and stretch it to get it on. The silicon is tough enough to withstand this slight abuse without tearing, but I feared that I would rip the case. Once on the 20 GB model, the back is a little loose, though not enough to notice unless you're looking at it closely. Obviously the gap is meant to account for the larger 40 GB model, although I imagine getting the case onto the 40GB might be a challenge.

I love the protection these cases provide, although I miss the cool, glossy, pristine look without the cover.

For those whom this may concern, this case also fits the iPod 30GB Photo. The case isn't as tight as people describe it but it fits perfectly. This case doesn't make the ipod much thicker. It barely adds any weight on in fact.

The plastic that it's made of is great. It is definately scratch resistant; it's so strong that you could use a pocket knife and scratch the back and your ipod won't even be harmed. When you put the case into jean pockets, it tends to stick in there so taking it out will inside-out your pockets (I hope that made sense). This case will not slid off a dashboard either (although I wouldn't recommend it). Although the packaging says that it's shock absorbant, I don't recommend dropping your iPod.

For a screen protector and wheel protector, I recommend that you cut out a piece of paper protecter and slip that into the case. The hard plastic that the cases come in will also work but after you cut it out, you'll have to use sandpaper to sand it smooth so it doesn't scratch you iPod once you put it in.

After you have the plastic in the case, you're ipod will be completely protected. The only thing i don't like is the top is too wide open and dust tends to get in from the top. The bottom of the case is perfect; it closes completely so the case also acts as a dock protector.

I have an iPod 20 GB also, and this fits that as well. As for the 40GB iPods, I wouldn't recommend it. My friends who have the 40GB iPod tell me that it doesn't not fit. Some have been able to JAM the ipod into the case but that cannot be good for it.

Taking an iPod (20/30GB) out of the case is very easy and smooth. It will not scratch the ipod at all when you put it in or take it out.

For those people who sync thousands of songs at a time, you should take your iPod out of the case because the harddrive gets hot and the skin is only making it hotter... hot = bad.

Overall, this case is wonderful. I wouldn't recommend anything as this price is perfect COMPARED TO OTHER CASES. Honestly speaking, I think that these cases took less than 25 cent to make in a factory and I believe that the price is outrageous. Like I said however, COMPARED TO OTHER CASES' PRICES, this is actually pretty good.

- You have to make your own screen/wheel protection

- The case's top is a little too large and allows dust to enter

- Doesn't have holes in the back to let the iPod "breathe"

I have a 20 GB ipod, and the case is skin tight, but easy enough to get on. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND SOMEONE WITH A 40 GB IPOD TO BUY THIS CASE- That kind of ipod is larger, and would simply not fit the dimensions of the case. Otherwise, it provides easy access to the click wheel, and to the ports for the headphones, dock, etc. It is stylish, and I think that three of them for 23 dollars (right now there's a discount) is an extemely good deal, given that some ipod cases cost up to 40 dollars apiece. If you're planning on buying this, please note that these cases offer no protection to the screen- although I knew that they wouldn't when I bought it, the screen is a highly scratchable surface. I really like the case overall, but I do king of miss the shiny beauty of the ipod without the case on.

Put it on my new iPod photo 30GB and it fits prefectly. Since 60GB or 40GB is a lot thicker so don't even try. Have not tried on the 20GB iPod but it should fit fine if not a little too large, since the 20GB is a hair thinner than the 30GB iPod Photo. The price is great too.

The Speck iPod skins are great. I love the thick rubbery feel because it really does protect the iPod. The use of the click wheel is not obstructed. The only problem is that the display is not protected, so additional display covers are needed.

After reading the reviews, I thought I would have to squeeze the skin on my 20gb ipod. I had no problem getting it on, if anything it's a little loose. I have no complaints about this product. It does it job well, to protect your ipod. It's a fair product for a fair price, nothing more.

I recieved the Speck Skin pack for Christmas because I had admired the Pink Mini iPod, but needed the storage capacity of the 40 GB iPod. I have not yet tried to get the skin off, but my dad put the skin on and said it was very difficult. You never want to hear the words "Well, we shouldn't use soap, but..." when you are talking about such a nice piece of electronic equipment.

It is true that after you close the dock access there is a bit of the iPod left uncovered, but it is just a sliver of space, and it isn't that big of a deal. There is some slight stretching, but after you adjust the skin a bit,there is a significant differance. I reccomend these skins because they are pretty, and because they will prevent the grubby fingerprints and scratches to the silver back.

The I-Pod skins are fairly difficult to get on. Once it is on the skin does provide good protection.
