I bought this to replace a hard shell plastic case for my 3G Nano and like it much better. The hard shell had popped open when I dropped the ipod which isn't a problem with this rubberized case. I also like the removable clip. I can use it to clip the ipod to my garment when I'm walking or running which eliminates the need for (and makes the ipod more accessible) than an armband. The included screen protector seems to be sturdy but clear and scratch proof -- I'm pretty rough with my ipod. I like this case better than a similar rubberized case that my husband has for his 60G. The bottom of his doesn't expose the ipod connector, plug and lock button -- you have to flip out the whole bottom section to connect it. It probably protects the connector better, but it's awkward to flip out. One possible problem with the Speck ToughSkin case bottom (as opposed to the flip out bottom) is that it might cause the ipod to sit too high on some speaker or other "plug in" accessories. On my speaker unit, I just removed the universal insert at the connector and it fit just fine.

I'll keep this review short by not writing about how great this product is, since everyone else has already done that. Instead, I'll tell you what I don't like about it.

First of all, this ToughSkin case makes my nano look and feel bulkier, more than I feel it needs to. After all, If I wanted something bigger, I would have gotten the regular ipod and not the nano. The overall fit of the case is good but not great. My ToughSkin case has a slight bulge in the middle between the wheel and the screen.

A screen protector comes with the case and fits over the ipod screen. The screen protector doesn't feel secure, because it is a loose piece and is held in place by the elastic fit of the rubber ToughSkin. Having the screen protector on adds a little undesired bulk and allows for annoying dust to get trapped in between. Sort of like how trapped dust used to get inside the screens of older cell phones. I have gotten around this problem by simply not using the screen protector. Of course, now my screen is no longer protected.

Lastly, my ipod wheel is less accessible because the rubber around the wheel is too thick. The wheel feels like it sits in a depression surrounded by rubber, and because it is made of rubber, my finger doesn't glide around the wheel like it did before. Also, because the wheel sits low, I find myself sometimes using my fingernail to press selections. Unfortunately, as a result of this, I get to listen to songs that I didn't intend to play....Grrrrr!

All in all, I really don't regret this purchase because it does what I need it to do,....protect my ipod and provide a clip for mobility. I wrote this review so that others wouldn't come across 5 overall stars and assume that this product is perfect. This ToughSkin case is a good product and true to most of the reviews, but it is by no means without its flaws.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want tough, go Toughskin., April 3, 2008
This review is from: Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear) (Electronics)
I bought this product and wow, toughskin does not mess around when they make a "tough" product. the rubber case is very durable and protects every inch of the ipod, excluding the headphone jack and dock connector of course. this case also includes a screen protector that is very unique. It does not adhere to the ipod, on one side of the hard plastic screen it has a sort of rubber gasket that keeps it stuck to the ipod and the rubber case fits perfectly over the screen protector.

i have dropped my ipod with this skin many a time. one time i was running through the city and it fell like five feet to the concrete pretty damn hard. i was heartbroken, however, there wasn't a blemish on the case or even the plastic belt clip that comes with the case (which is also awesome because it has a quick disconnect).

The shock absorbtion on this case is impeccable, really it is. great buy and even worth the pricey 25 or so dollars. 5/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough protection for your iPod Nano 3rd gen., April 1, 2008
This review is from: Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear) (Electronics)
The "Tough skin rubberized case" is just that. Protective silicon rubber. A plastic cover protects the screen. All access points ie. dial, cord jack and ear bud jack are easily used. A small sore point would be getting your iPod in and out of your pocket. However, one wouldn't have to worry about it falling out accidentally.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps iPod very safe., October 24, 2008

This review is from: Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear) (Electronics)
This case is excellent if you tend to be rough on your iPod. I run with mine and this case has protected it against dropping and moisture (both sweat and rain). It's a little bulkier than I had hoped, but that may be necessary to provide so much protection. I feel like you could do almost anything short of running over it with a car and it would be safe. The belt clip is handy for running, but when you remove the clip you still have the giant clip attachment thing sticking out. Another issue is that it is VERY difficult to get in/out of the case. I was hoping to switch my iPod between this case and my arm band, but it just takes way too much time/effort.

I highly reccomend this prodcut if you want your iPod completely protected and don't plan to remove it from the case or fit it into a tiny pocket.

Update: February '10

I have now had this case in frequent use for nearly a year an a half and it is still great. There is some rust on the belt clip where the metal is exposed and the clear rubber has yellowed, but it is otherwise still very useful and my iPod remains in perfect condition, despite daily use and many long outdoor runs. I use it with the NIKE + IPOD SPORT KIT-USA and the sensor fits the case very well. This is important if you use Nike+, since a lot of cases don't accomodate the sensor well. I will say that the included trackwheel sticker was pretty useless for me. It never got a very good stick and fell off pretty quickly. Also, some debris has crept in the trackwheel hole over time. The case doesn't look very cute anymore, but I am still happy with it and it gets the job done. If you want something that encases the iPod completely and doesn't allow dirt or moistere to seep in under the case, you might want to check out OtterBox Defender Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear).

We got this cover for our 9 year old's new ipod. We were searching for something strong and rugged. We hit the jackpot with this! It is clear (not crystal clear) so you can still see your ipod's color. It is really thick. It reminds me of tire treads. It is not rock hard...it is more like sturdy rubber. There is also a clear plastic rectangular piece that covers the screen. There really was not an explanation of how to insert this. But it isn't too hard to figure out. We put the rubber case over the ipod and then put the hard plastic piece in; it has never moved out of place at all. You can charge your ipod without taking off the cover as well. We are truly pleased with this case!

I search every where for this case... since the Ipod nano 3G is pretty old... some accessories are hard to find, but with this case you scratch problems with be in the past, easy to install and leave the right space for the headphones jack, hold switch, scroll wheel, and bottom port.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for an iPod Cover with Belt Clip!, February 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear) (Electronics)
My daughter wanted a cover for her 3rd generation nano. She's six years old and it needed to be tough in case she dropped it. This case fits snugly but is a little hard to get on and off. We put the iPod through the window opening and not the bottom. There is more give there.

We were really surprised when this arrived with two cases (a clear case and black case) in the same box. I can't guarantee that it will be that way for everyone since it isn't in the product description that way.

So for five bills, we got two cases, two protectors and a belt clip. The clip slides on and off the back of either case and is a spring release clip.

The case is bulky but since the iPod starts out so small, almost any case is going to add to it. A really great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars tough tough, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear) (Electronics)
I prefer a rubberized case like this because it seemed like a better idea than the plastic cases which, have a tendency to pop open when dropped (from what I hear). Furthermore, I think that a rubberized case would be most able to absorb that kind of impact and it won't shatter. My only complaint is that it's hard to get the iPod in and out of that skin.

This product is probably the best case for the iPod Nano 3G. It fits nicely over the iPod and has a screen protector that works great. My only complaint is that I cannot attach my iTrip to it due to the thick rubber at the bottom. No worries, the case slides up a bit and now it works just fine! This product will not disappoint!
