Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy a cool, crisp sound while adding to your bedroom's laid-back feel with the SpeckTone Retro iPod speaker system from Speck Products. The system's primary appeal stems from its sleek and stylish mod design, which consists of a high-gloss lacquered white wood cabinet, a backlit "green glow" volume knob, and a housing that looks straight out of a '50s hipster catalog. But there's far more to the Retro system than looks, as it also includes a built-in iPod docking station that accepts virtually all "dockable" iPods, including the iPod 4G, iPod video, iPod photo, iPod mini, and iPod nano. As a result, you can charge and play your iPod at the same time. The system's auxiliary input, meanwhile, works with older iPods and other digital media players, including personal CD players, MP3 players, and any other device with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Audio-wise, the Retro boasts analog circuitry, a pair of 3-inch drivers, and a 4-inch bottom subwoofer that combine to deliver a rich, dynamic sound with uncompromising quality. Other details include the ability to accommodate many iPod protective cases, a total power output of 28 watts, and a set of angled legs with soft rubber strips to prevent slipping. An ideal tabletop system for the bedroom, office, or kitchen, the SpeckTone Retro measures 14 by 5 by 6.5 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90- day warranty.

What's in the Box

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Cool and Better Than Expected..., January 4, 2007

I've been looking for some speakers for my iPod and ran across the Specktone Retro... Really liked the looks and took a chance on the sound... Got it 1/3/07 from the Apple Store... The one I got is a 'Specktone Retro 2', new model??? They did away with the big power brick, it's all inside now and simply comes with a power cord.... Also comes with a remote and no on/off switch in the back... No foam spacers, but plastic ipod holders in three sizes... Sound - I find it to be deep, full, big and pleasing to the ear... I like to listen to classic rock, blues, folk, bluegrass and audio books... The case besides looking cool, seems well built and it's wood... It does what it's supposed to do and looks good doing it.

Got this for my husband for his birthday. Took it out of the box and it looked great! Plugged in the iPod and it sounded even better!! I noticed the remote wasn't working and then, it made an electronic gurgle noise and died. NOT EVEN THREE SONGS PLAYED!!!! Upon reading some reviews, I realized that this thing is not well-manufactured. You may be tempted, but I'd say go for the Bose.

We called Speck products re: warranty issues and got the run-around and shuffled into someone's voicemail.

Stuck with a brick! :(

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic for the price, October 8, 2007

I bought this about a year ago and it didn't even last me the year. A couple months into using it, I noticed that the sound of the music would vary depending on the position on the ipod while it was hooked into the radio. If you touched it or moved it a bit, you could hear static and whatnot. Sometimes it would have audio issues on it's own and I'd have to wiggle my ipod around and get it just right for the sound to sound normal. Songs with more bass cause the woofer to buzz as well as if it can't handle the frequency. Just tonight, the thing "died"; it doesn't play the music even though the ipod is playing through it. That's what caused me to hop on here and let everyone else know that this is a nice looking, but pretty crappy ipod player.
