Witness the original web-slinger's mythology from the beginning! Peter Parker is a not so typical high school junior, fresh off an exciting summer engaging common criminals with his new found powers. But now he must conceal his secret identity as "Spider-Man", while engaging a new level of terror: the multi-leveled pressures of teenage life at home/school with combating bigger, badder super villains in the real world!

Three episodes of animation that surpass Spider-Man 3 in half the time!,
By Eddie Brock "Nemesis" (Pittsburgh,PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spectacular Spider-Man, Vol. 6 (DVD)
Losing that fifth star due to this release being only one story as opposed to the entire second season, this DVD features the return of Venom story arc. The episodes "First Steps", "Growing Pains", and "Identity Crisis," all named after ideas in Human Development, revovle around Eddie Brock discovering where the symbiote's been hidden, and, once reclaiming it, uses it to terrorize Spidey in true Venom fashion. As with previous Spec Spidey story arcs, the main villain doesn't really throw down with Spidey till the last episode, so the opportunity arises for Sandman to appear outside of the Sinister Six. The goal is by episode's end for Spidey to see Flint Marko in a more heroic light, just as in Spider-Man 3. It works better here, without the sobfest Sam Raimi aimed for in his epic film. In "Growing Pains", J Jonah Jameson's astronaut son finally becomes a super power as he did in the comics. However in this case it's more digestable. As per usual with Peter Parker's life, a series of misunderstandings puts the two heroes at odds by episode's end. Lastly, symbiote fans finally get to see Venom at his best - attacking Spider-Man's life and making Peter miserable and frustrated. With his identity possibly outed to the public, Peter has to dodge accusations as well as Venom's fists, which leads to the first battle to take place at Peter's school. When watched back to back with Volume 4, this makes for a cool little Venom movie, with the voice actors and the dialouge hitting the important beats and vibes the 80s and 90s comics did, illustrating how two young men both combat their inner demons and how revenge can drive you mad.

This series continues to impress. The storyline(s) are just great. Each episode sits well on its own, but if you watch in order you really see some great story lines develop and the writers stick with it. Rumor has it this may be the final season and Disney XD has had a hard time locking down a set day/time to air the episodes so that may discourage any viewers. Great series. If you like Spider Man you will be pleased.

The Best Spider-Man Cartoons Since 1966,

This review is from: Spectacular Spider-Man, Vol. 6 (DVD)
ALL episodes in this Spectacular Spider-Man animated series are absolutely The Best Spider-Man cartoons and stories since the 1966 Amazing Spider-Man IN COLOR cartoons!!Season 1 was well... Spectacular! Season 2 was highly anticipated and DID NOT DISAPPOINT - equally Spectacular!! The ONLY disappointment is that there is NO Season 3 or more!! What is it with Disney - the new owners of Marvel!? This entire series deserves more and more seasons! The retelling of the early Spider-Man stories with totally modern twists was a stroke of genius! With all the material having been written in the Classic Comic Books how could Disney cancel this series!!?? Then again Disney did the same thing with their equally ground breaking reinterpretation of Iron Man with their Iron Man Armor Adventures - BUT that is another sad story for for an equally fantastic series!! What's worse they left us with a cliff hanger!! What really happened to Tony Stark Sr.!!?? DISNEY - wake up and bring both series back!!! There were non better!
