Step-by-step techniques for inspirational projects. How to add reveals of foil, pearls, glass gems, glazed leaves and fruits. Brilliant ideas, such as how to use cake decorating tools to make 3D leaves, vines, and flowers. "When in doubt add a scroll or color it gold". WOW.

Check out the comments (below) for a good tip on helping with later removal of textured plaster if you decide to change the look of the room. (...I hate sanding).

As a professional Faux Finisher this book rates a 5 from me because it is easy to follow the steps and accomplish the finishes without a lot of expensive tools. These are out of the ordinary finishes and add punch to a portfolio that is mainly old world plaster finishes. Fun and do-able!! Even for a beginner..!

Though I found the projects stepped out in this book, a bit repetitive in technique application - there are some good ideas here for embellishing your faux finishing portfolio with dimensional samples. The book is geared towards faux finishers more than muralists. The simplicity of Dostal's techniques are admirable. I felt the design of this book a bit distracting (a lot of pics are angled and surrounded by dotted cut-out lines????), although there is a good amount of information scattered about, especially in regard to material usage. I was most dissapointed with the void of finished, whole room photos. The obvious staged and propped beauty shots lack inspirational value. For the beginning faux finisher I would reccomend this book - for the more advanced I found only little value here. For the price however, the book does merit a few cretive ideas and projects worth the purchase.

I am a faux and decorative painter, and this book is perfect for adding interesting ideas to your portfolio that have a little "zing!" Great addition for any decorative painter's library!

Thank you for inspiring me to start faux finishing! With your detailed instructions, colorful large photos, and list of items to buy, you make it very easy. Your ideas are fresh and fun! I am really enjoying your book - I would recommend it to everyone who is looking for something with extra pizazz! Not the same old colors and techniques.

I actually checked this book out of the library, read it, then came back and bought it. Some very interesting ideas for using three dimensional motifs. I can hardly wait to try piping vines made out of joint compound onto walls. A well written book with lots of pictures of finished techniques, excellent supply lists and clear and concise directions. This one is definitely a keeper for my personal library.

By adding texture and embellishments to walls you can have spectacular results both original and tasteful as well as artistic - and you needn't be a painter to achieve this. Spectacular Walls: Creative Effects Using Texture, Embellishment And Paint shows how, using a step- by-step visual approach and covering everything from materials and supplies to have on hand to tips on using paint, coating, drawing and preparations. Oversized pages and many color photos make for a winning display.

I really liked this book. Many of the ideas not only involve different paint finishes but also embellishments. There are many ideas that would be appropriate for teen and kids rooms but many sophisticated looks for the whole house. The directions are not over complicated which I like. This book will give you lots of ideas.

"Spectacular Walls" is a book filled with interesting wall decor techniques. Most are unique and will make your walls an immediate topic for discussion! The directions and supplies lists are precise so that most anyone could complete these wall designs. It is much less expensive than hiring an artist!!

I really like this book- I like the techniques and some of the fun ideas- though I really only needed to see them explained once... there are a few examples of the same basic technique (as well as a few unique techniques). And I felt that one or two things could have been done in a more time efficient way...

I'm glad to have the book in my library, I only wish that Jeannine would have shown us something more, I know she has a 5 in her!
