Most reviewers here and online complain that the fit of this shell holder just "isn't right" or that the rear most shell (#6) interferes with shouldering the gun, meaning the rear-most shell is too far back on the stock - here is how move the shell loops forward 1" and to improve this shell holder to a 5-star fit:

Get yourself a small Velcro strap or cinch strap (hook and loop style where it doubles back on itself. Use this to connect the rear Velcro strap on the Spectre shell holder to the sling mount on the Spectre rear strap. This will move the shell holder and the front mounting strap forward about 1 inch, and will allow you to space out the strap mounting if you don't like the fit. Now when you have all 6 shells in their loops the rear-most shell doesn't interfere with shouldering and you can still mount a sling.

These are way more durable and secure than the Allen sleeve style butt holders that wrap around your stock.

Comment on this review if you have questions - also I mounted this on a Benelli Nova with no problems ONLY with the additional Velcro, otherwise it won't fit properly. Now it fits my Benelli like a glove. I'll be using it to carry #4 and 00 buck for home defense and slug and 3.5" turkey rounds out in the field.

Nice piece of gear. I used this on a mossberg 590 with hogue 12 inch LOP stock. This is really made for a full length stock, but it works ok on the shorter one. Holds the shells securely under recoil (slugs). Doesn't move around very much, and it provides a couple of places to attach a sling (flat loop). Perhaps the best thing about it is that it will help balance your gun if you have also have a shell holder mounted on the left of the receiver, (and/or a flash light) This will put some weight on the other side of your gun, and greatly improves handling. Nice product.

Great material....great product....TWO negatives: First, it has a weird fit on the Mossberg 500. It fits, just kind of funny. I still use it, I still love it. Very durable, tough material. Second, the shell holder closest to the end of the buttstock is essentially unusable. It is so close to the edge that you cannot get a good shoulder wield when firing. It really only COMFORTABLY holds 5 shells.

It's ok for my mossberg shotgun but the construction forces the shell holder to the bottom of the stock. i'd prefer one that rides closer to the other end. As it is, the shells are forced to the butt end where they block the use of many gun racks.

Amazing buttstock saddle that is light, good looking, and functional. With the ability to also use along side the Specter Gear sling, makes it very robust. The loops secure the shotshells well and provide more capacity than most other buttstock holders from the competition. Want the best buttstock holder for your shotgun? Look no further than Specter Gear.

Very sturdy and once you set it on your shotgun it won't move. Holds the shells no matter if it's upside down or right side up. A must have.

I originally had a Knoxx Specops stock on my Mossberg 590A1, but decided to go back to the traditional ergonomics. I liked the Knoxx (it really does reduce recoil), but I never did love the tactical look. Unfortunately my Specter CST sling was designed for the Knoxx. When I went to the Hogue stock, I was left with no rear attachment point. I could've whipped one up out of some Nylon webbing and a D-ring, but I figured I'd give this a shot. Perfect solution!

It fits over the Hogue well, and holds 12 gauge shells very securely. The mount point for the sling is secure and stable, as is the velcro holding it all together. This version does have the rear mount point for a sling (basically a D-ring), so if you're just looking for a buttcuff, you may opt for something else.

The fit is fine. One thing to keep in mind is that the nylon will stretch with time. So the key to a proper fit is to reposition the straps after they have been on the gun for a week or two.

The issue with the shell carrier sticking out and having sharp corners is easily solved with a pair of nail scissors and a lighter. Trim the edges and torch them to prevent fraying.

Avoid olive drab color as the rear atrap is a different color green from the front strap and the shell carrier.

The carrier seems to be tough and well-built. Minor customization and adjustment is the only reason for 4 stars.

I don't like leaving bad reviews but this one was warranted. it seemed pretty straight forward installation and I assume that is why SPECTER GEAR did not include instructions. what could have been a great product turned out to be quit disappointing. no Velcro where there should have been unnecessary buckles. I thought I ordered a Mossberg 500/590 product and it seemed like got a universal product. I will consider other options in the future SPECTER GEAR will not be one of them. this item should be at its most simplest fit, form and function.

Works perfectly. Tight fit on both the rig to the stock and the shells in their holders. Only issue was actually getting it onto the shotgun. Directions would have been pretty awesome. Either way, it worked.
