I bought this for my 6 year old even though it's recommended for ages 8 and up. She has had it for almost a year and it's still working! However, I have emphasized that she keep it in her room, so she hasn't carried it around much. The sound quality is fine for a youngster and she learned quickly how to change the CDs, which is front-loading. She has used it a lot and I feel that it has helped her learn how to relax in her room sometimes instead of follow me around asking what she can do! (Probably sounds familiar to lots of moms.) I would recommend this as a first real CD player.

Affixed to the electrical cord is a label that says that the cord is coated with a material that is toxic and also causes reproductive harm. Too bad the cord wasn't made with an adapter - it is built into the machine. Guess you could just put batteries in it and not use the electrical cord at all but still you would have to wash your hands everytime you touched it. Why do people make toxic toys? Also there isn't a headphone jack.

THis is a very cute CD player, but after I read the "toxic" waring on the electrical cord to wash your hands after handling and that it can cause reproductive harm--we returned ours. I don't understand why they would make such a product for children to use???

I bought this for my daughter's room so she could listen to classical music while she sleeps. I was going to buy a regular CD player and then I seen this one. It matches her room beautifully and works great. She's too little to carry it around or use it herself (she's 1 1/2), but she loves her "pretty radio" as she calls it. We haven't had any problems with ours and as for the "toxic" cord, I plugged it in once and I don't plan on moving it so its not a problem for me.The only thing that I don't like is the CD player skips if you bump it. It doesn't happen if you walk by it or shut the dresser drawer hard, only if you tap it or bump it by accident. I thought that was odd considering that it was designed to be carried around, but since ours just sits on the dresser I don't have a problem with it unless I hit it. Overall it is a great CD player. Adorable and functional!! |
