Only for decaying an already dead stump. This product isn't intended for killing a stump.
Must kill stump first with a "brush killer" product or similar systemic herbicide.

Any brand brush killer will do - as long as the label includes it's for killing stumps.
Apply full concentrate brush killer with paint brush - thoroughly on fresh cut stump.
> (Customer service says ~ wait 1 to 2 weeks, or however many days it takes (after brush killer)
to visibly see the stump is dry/dead) <

AFTER DEAD - Use this product - drill holes in stump as directed on "Stump Remover"
bottle, may need more then one bottle.
And/or - if your OK with having the stump left where it's at,
then there's no need for this product.
This products sole purpose is for accelerating decomposition.

I feel the instructions are rather vague. One has to use your own imagination
on the appropriate amount of how many holes - how deep - and how much granules is enough.

PRODUCT STATEMENT.
This is not an instant product. It is an aid to natural decomposition.

INSTRUCTIONS.
> 1 Prior to using Spectracide stump remover granules, freshly cut stumps
should be killed with a brush killer.
> 2. (when dead) Drill several 1" holes, up to 12" deep in stump.
> 3. Then into the side of the stump approx 3" - 4" from the top,
drill a 1" hole slanting down to connect with the bottom of the center hole.
> 4. Pour approx 4 oz of Stump Removal in each hole.
> 5. Then fill with hot water to dissolve the granules.
> 6.

followed the directions, kind of. I didn't do the roundup initially, so I waited 6 months, then bored the holes about every 10 inches, and poured in, followed with 3-4 rounds of hot water over a few days, then waited 6 months (1 year total). poured a little kero on it, build a tp fire on it, and it's been burning for 5 days. I hose down the area around it morning, lunch, and evening, for mental relief of fire spreading. This massive 5 ft diameter stump is now sub terrain, and still smoldering. BTW, smoldering stumps smell to high heaven! Saved me hundreds on stump grinding:)

Don't expect a miracle here, but for speeding up the decomposition of a stump and its roots, this works.

I don't have a baseline for how much quicker this works than nature itself. I do notice that stumps treated with these granules seem to have roots that are starting to decompose within months. I have been able to dig out some of the roots near medium sized trees after maybe 2-6 months. It turns the roots to a mushy material.

Try it, it is cheap at least.

Poured some of this stuff on my stump and waited a few months and nothing happened then I learned its quicker and more effective to mix it with charcoal and sulfur before adding it to the stump

I used this for solid state rocket fuel (R-Candy) and gunpowder. The KNO3 came finely ground, similar to sugar, maybe a little finer but not by much. It burned very well and made for several great experiments. If you are looking for Potassium Nitrate at a cheap cost with great results, look no further. This gets the job done, plain and simple.

Stuff worked great in a fun smoke bomb science experiment since it 100% KNO3. Did not use it on stumps.

This is a rather common chemical compound. Any similar product of the same composition would work as well. Shop for low price and be patient; the process can take a year or more.
