Great quality iron/board holder,
By
This review is from: Spectrum Basket with Ironing Board Holder (Kitchen)
I bought this to replace a plastic holder that I've had for over 20 years that finally broke. I wanted to find something very similar, sturdy, and not too expensive. This seemed to fit the bill. My husband installed it for me, and it's very nice. It's larger than I expected, so it could hold any type of iron I'm sure. My older one wasn't nearly as nice. However, it is larger than I expected, and it's installed in my laundry room on a wall behind the door, and it sticks out about 10 inches from the wall. Keep that in mind when installing it.

First off, it fits my new Rowenta DW 8080 iron, which is large. I had an old Rubbermaid iron holder, but the Rowenta won't fit. The Spectrum will easily hold the iron, facing in either direction, as well as the accessory measuring cup, and a small spray bottle. Of course, it also supports the ironing board. The basket is 13" tall, by 11" wide, and has a maximum depth of about 7.75 inches. The wire mesh is 1/2 inch on center, with holes about 3/8 inch wide. Installation is easy, IF you have a #2 Phillips screwdriver with an 8" shaft, available at Home Depot for $7. The top two screws are easy to install with any #2 Phillips screwdriver. To get to the bottom two screws, you need a driver that will go through the square basket weave of the unit, and reach the back, which is almost 8" away. The holes are only 1" from the outer edges, so a socket set may not work from within the basket. A socket driver might work from outside the basket if the shaft has a diameter no greater than 3/8 inch, maybe 7/16, to go through the mesh.
I mounted my Spectrum Basket onto a wooden surface, so turning the screws took a little effort. If you use the included wall anchors, and have good hand strength, you might be able to tighten the bottom screws by reaching into the basket from the top, and using a stubby #2 Phillips screwdriver however, I recommend using an 8" long screwdriver. The long shaft will give you a lot of torque, and the screws will turn in easily.

Gigantic sticker gets in the way!,

Overall the basket is ok, nothing fancy. The wire fence that makes up the basket is a bit flimsy and some places were bent and separating from the base. I was able to see past that because it's not going to hang in a public area. What made me angry was the gigantic 8 x 10 sticker that is placed on the back plate of the basket right where the hot part of the iron would touch. I tried to get the sticker off so it wouldn't melt onto the iron and it wouldn't peel off. I had to use a "goo-be-gone" type of product and scrape it off with razors and putty knives. The end result was a scratched back plate and the goo-be-gone started taking off the paint. Extremely annoying!

We have a large vintage 50's iron (with cloth cord) along with a same-era massive steel ironing board, so we ordered the Spectrum Basket with Ironing Board Holder because it looked tough enough to do the job. And how! Our iron is absolutely lost in the basket. But look at it this way: it fits ALL the ironing supplies in one place (misting water bottle, hem tape, etc.). The ironing board sits in the hooks just barely but then again we've got a classic. I like how it came without the hooks mounted in case you don't want them. You could use it as a plain old wall-mounted storage basket. The hooks were a little tough to snap in, but you know those babies aren't coming off. The hooks can pivot to fit T or curved ironing board bottoms (not Y shape). It feels sturdy even using just the top two screws. And being all metal I don't mind putting the iron away hot (up and out of the way). I recommend it if you have an oversized iron/board and plenty of room for it. I gave it 4 stars because no instructions (easy to figure out though) and it juts away from the wall exactly 8 inches, which doesn't sound like alot until you try to fit it in a closet. Measure first.

I had a little trouble installing this unit, because the holes are in awkward spots. I wasn't able to get one of the screws in securely but having 3 in seems to be good enough. It holds the ironing board well and has ample room for the iron and a few other things above.

The holder is very nice - strong and sturdy - but whoever made it was a little off. The hole that slips over the provided screws was too small so it had to be screwed in while it's being held up to the wall - very difficult. If there was another way to do it, I couldn't find it since it came with NO assembly instructions. I got it done but I wasn't happy.

I liked that this product is large enough to store a full-size iron along with other accessories which was very difficult to find. It is also very sturdy once installed.

After building a new utility room, I wanted the ironing board accessible but not leaning against the wall - this is perfect. Eevrything is in it's proper place and handy to use whenever needed.
