Editorial Reviews

2007 collection of recordings from the second most popular member of the Jackson 5 (you have four guesses who the most popular member is...and it's not Tito!). When the Jackson 5 left Motown and became the Jacksons, Jermaine chose to remain under Berry Gordy's watchful eye and scored a handful of hits on the R&B charts. 20 of his greatest songs are here including 'Let's Get Serious', 'Bigger You Love, Harder You Fall', 'That's How Love Goes' and more. Spectrum.

If it took Jermaine's appearance on the UK version of "Big Brother" to get more of his music onto CD, then so be it. This CD is a UK import that covers his Motown years (up to 1982), so that means no "Dynamite" or "Do What You Do" since those came out in '84. But you do get three songs off his unjustly ignored 1978 album FRONTIERS, which, believe it or not, is a very good thing, as that was a great funk/r&b album. This collection does make some strange song choices, ignoring some singles in favor of obscure album tracks. This isn't always a bad thing, but "You Like Me Don't You" from '81 was one of his best songs, and a UK hit, so why isn't it here? On the other hand, it might have been best to exclude his too-slick disco single "Let's Be Young Tonight" from '76, as that might try the patience of most contemporary listeners. But anyway, there's some cool uptempo hit-worthy tunes on here, particularly "I Can't Take No More" from '81, that until now were not on CD, and the remastering sounds great. Overall, a good choice for anyone curious about Jermaine's solo work, as well as the long-time fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, May 25, 2007

This is getting a 5 star review mainly because it is not the standard batch of songs found on other Motown era compilations. Most of these songs are getting their debut on CD, and while some are surely not ground breaking, they deserve to be heard. "The Bigger You Love (The Harder You Fall)" is a big surprise to me. I have never heard this one and I am bowled over by it. It's hot! Other highlights are "You Gave Me Something To Believe In" and "If Yu Don't Love Me". It doesn't include a couple of songs that you would think would be on here, (Daddy's Home and You Like Me Dont't You), even so, this is the best compilation out there...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good collection, October 28, 2007
This review is from: Spectrum Collection (Audio CD)
i've always been a fan of Jermaine Jackson's. from back in the day seeing him playing bass and singing at the same time and I also dug his vocal presentation. this collection has quite a few of his hits including Let's get serious,I'm just too shy and Let me tickle your fancy. Jermaine had a distinctive vocal style and approach to Groove. this is a Good Collection from a very Underrated Artist. the Jacksons will always rule.
