5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book about Gods grace and love for us
This is a different book from others. Both Scotty and Steven share their hear in a wonderful way, for instance about hard times when they have experienced Gods grace. 1.0 out of 5 stars I learned more about SCC but not much else.
I originally bought the book because of SCC. The book actually taught me alot more about SCC that I thought it would, that was the good part. After reading all the parts that SCC wrote, I decided to take a look at the whole book. In all honesty, I was kind of disturbed at how "loosely" Scotty holds God's grace. I know we are saved by God's grace alone and that...

This is a different book from others. Both Scotty and Steven share their hear in a wonderful way, for instance about hard times when they have experienced Gods grace. I have never read any books where the authors have been so honest and personal about their lives. This book has challenged me in my life, as well as get on my knees crying out to God for a change in my life. I am familiar with lots of the stories and I am gratefeul that they have shared their hear in such a personal way. I recommend this book to everyone who really wants to be challenged. Be blessed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An "unexpected" pearl, January 14, 2000
This review is from: Speechless (Hardcover)
On the recommendation of the host of the morning radio program that I listen to, I decided to purchase Steven Curtis Chapman's Speechless CD. Next to the CD was his book by the same name. I was not very familiar with Steven's music and knew nothing about Scotty Smith, the co-author of the book and Steven's pastor, but since the book was on sale, the "risk" of purchase seemed low so I bought it, too. Am I glad I did. This book provides an often very personal and open look at the inner spiritual struggles of two very thoughtful men as they try to understand what it means to live the Christian life. And since their journey is in many respects a universal journey, I found the book to be a very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise, February 4, 2001
This review is from: Speechless (Hardcover)
I had never heard of Scotty Smith and have never bought any of Steven's music. I have no idea why I even bought this book! But, I soon found out that the lessons Steven and Scotty have learned, the intimacy they have with God, the seasons of doubt they've experienced, and the freedom in God they've developed are for all of us. I have more of a sense of obedience to God, appreciation for his never ending grace and a healthy sense of His awesome holiness, than I ever had before. I want to walk closer, listen harder and love my Lord greater than I ever have before - and I can. It's hard to verbalize what I gained from this book, but I have internalized it and it is a tremendous blessing to have the help of these two Godly men who speak so freely and openly to us from their heart. I'm grateful for their struggles and their victories and even more grateful that they love us enough to transparently share it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful, gives one alot to think about, July 14, 1999

I'm a freshman in college, and I'll confess, i must admit i got this book b/c Chapman is my favorite artist, and i was more than curious to see what he had to say. What i didn't anticipate was enjoying, and actually thinking about what Steven and Scotty were saying. The book has helped me realize that we are all in desperate need of grace, but all too often we misinterpret what grace really is. Bottom line is that it was a well written book, and i found myself able to relate to alot of the experiences/stuff that Scotty and Steven talked about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awe inspiring Grace!!, February 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Speechless (Hardcover)
This book is truly inspirational. Steven and Scotty are really open on their struggles and hardships. Each story teaches us something new. This book has reinforsed how being a Christian is more than just being obedient and obeying God's Word. It's trusting in Jesus to work through you. Grace is an awsome thing to understand and accept. This book even brought an even bigger meaning to my favorite scripture of 2Cor 5:17. If your really looking to know more about God's Grace then read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Then Shall We Live?, November 23, 2000

"child_of_th_burning_heart" (The Fields of Forgiveness and Grace) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Speechless (Paperback)
This book will answer that question. Scotty Smith, SCC's pastor and mentor, explains that we are all sinners, and despite that, God loves us all. As a former Pharisee, he can say with confidence that it's ok to have struggles, questions and doubts. He tells us of his long wrestling match with marital strife in the chapter "Foolishness, Figleaves, and a Father's Love". SCC puts in his two cents at the beginning of each chapter. in the final chapter, "Living in the Light of Heaven", he shatters our pathetic veiws of heaven in favor of a new, wondrous, incredible vision of eternal paradise. Such are the highlights of the book, in my opinion. Anyone who loves SCC as I do will enjoy it even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truths about living the life of a Christian., July 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Speechless (Hardcover)
Steven has always tried to be open and honest through his music and now this book about the joys and struggles that are real in life. Being a Christian does not mean having a pain-free life or doing everything right. It's about the love and peace that comes only from knowing God in a real sense. It's about dusting ourselves off, forgiving ourselves and moving on when we make a mistake. Steven's desire is to encourage people that, no matter what, a life with God is far superior than any other thing this world tries to sell us.
