The Ben Folds EP's can all be ordered from Ben at www-dot-attackedbyplastic-dot-com for a fraction of the cost.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not just the EP
What the other reviewers of this item did not understand is that this import is not just the EP. It comes in a special three-disc digipak which can hold Folds' other two EPs. The special case is the reason for the higher price. Decide for yourself if that is worth the money; if not, just buy the regular EP.

This is a great EP, one of Ben's best collection of songs! however, amazon's price is a joke! check out ben's site to buy the cd for nearly 1/3 the price.

There is no reason on earth this CD should be selling for $50. I bought mine from Ben Fold's website for less than $10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ben Folds Is Brilliant, April 11, 2004

I love this album. Every single track is amazing. Folds' ability to create catchy, witty, intelligent piano-driven pop is truly mind blowing. He does it consistantly, album after album, and here he's no different. The riffs and melodies are absolutely infectious.

Songs like "Protection" and "Dog" virtually force the listener to groove to the music. I found myself driving down the highway playing my air-piano and tapping both feet in time with the music. You can't even help yourself.

Folds has said his upcoming album is going to be in the vein of this album and Sunny 16 and I can't WAIT!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful EP, July 12, 2004
This review is from: Speed Graphic (Audio CD)
while his newest EP, sunny 16, is slightly better than this one you still definately need this one too. all the songs are great, although "give judy my notice" is probably my favorite song from both EPs.

however, DO NOT buy this cd from amazon.com. you'd have to be insane to pay that much money for five songs. either go to ben's website and order it, which is about $9 after shipping and all...or just go to sony music and download the songs for $4.95. i would say just go download them off of kazaa but i was unable t find three of the songs, so it's a lot quicker to just go buy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse, fun, high-quality EP, May 12, 2004
This review is from: Speed Graphic (Audio CD)
Ben Folds decided to release this album as a digital-only EP in the USA. The only way to get a printed, shrink-wrapped CD is to import it from places where the iTunes Music Store and similar services have not yet flourished. I purchased the digital version of this album on iTunes, encouraged by its low price and diverse-sounding tracks.

Though piano and drums are used exclusively on every song, each track's sound is very different. Each song sounds unique. At no point was I sick of hearing Ben work over the keys of his baby grand Baldwin. The drummer throws down some almost-funky rhythms to keep things lively.

"In Between Days" is fast, driven piano rock with a great riff that will instantly get stuck in your head. A fast, strong start to the album.

"Give Judy My Notice" is a moderately paced song about right what the title implies: breaking up with Judy. Ben sings of his tiring of being Judy's plaything; a slightly more descriptive, funny, coarser word is used in the song. An interesting, surprisingly heart-felt ballad about a sad guy. One of my more favorite songs by Ben, though it may be a bit melodramatic.

"Protection" is fitting to follow the downer Judy, as Ben wants to protect himself from women. Some good piano and drum solo in this keep it lighthearted and joyous.

"Dog" is a nice little tune whose title and main rhythm gets the listener picturing Snoopy dancing around a little path, with Ben Folds taking over for Charlie Brown. However, this time it seems like Brown/Ben is going to get the girl! A very catchy tune, with a nice little cameo by, maybe, Ben's girlfriend of the time.

"Wandering" is a slow, reflective song to end the album. A pretty piece, with some interesting lyrics. A quiet song to end a very enjoyable listen, with a great chorus ending that better have you humming along by the time you finish!

With not a single bad track on the album, this is a solid purchase for fans of Ben Folds. Even better, I believe it could easily introduce new fans to him, for the sound is almost easier to listen to, and probably more likable, than some of his radio work. "Rockin' the Suburbs" this is not, which is not a bad thing at all. Perfectly casual in its atmosphere, this is highly recommended to piano players who want to hear some quality pop that seems effortless, but is also quite developed.

This is a nice collection of songs that don't need to be imported from Japan to enjoy. Just go to www.benfolds.com and you'll be able to get the goods at a fraction of this cost. It is nice that Amazon allows us to purchase imports, but this time it isn't a necessity.
