Speed racer is a great, fun game if you are the fast and furious racing type. Speed racer puts you in the races of the movie and utilizes realistic racing moves such as drafting and unrealistic moves found in the game known as "Car-Fu" in which you can bang and spin your way around the track and push your rivals around. I always enjoy a great racing game when I go to the arcade and I enjoy racing against my friends and being able to bump into them or maybe get them to crash is tons of fun (unless they do it to me). All of that is present in this game, and you get to unlock a bunch of different characters from the movie that all have different strengths and weaknesses. After you complete the first three stages, the final stage is a mirror image (which is great because that doubles the number of available tracks) and you begin to unlock cheats in the game.

The downsides are that some tracks the graphics can get a bit busy (lots of color) and sometimes things on the track can be hard to see. I look at it as part of the challenge, but some may not like it. The game is also challenging to defeat in the beginning, but once you understand how the game works, it can be fairly easy to defeat as there is a rubber band effect in the game (last place driver is never out of it early, and neither is the first place driver always going to win). The car-fu moves are little bit difficult to learn at first, especially as you are hurtling down the track.

All in all, a fun racing game, with a few downsides, but overall a great experience.

I thought that my son would love this game......he will in about 3 or 4 years. He is 4 now and loves Speed Racer. He can play Mario Cart, so I figured he would be able to play this game. He can't, my husband has to play, and my son pretends that he is playing. Not an independent game for a 4 year old. Oh well!
