The author addressed the common reading problems: subvocalization, finger-pointing, regression and back-skipping, and presents the new approaches to overcoming them. He gives practical advises on improving your concentration and increasing your comprehension. Much attention is given to developing advanced skimming and scanning techniques, range reading skills, metronome training.
The book finishes with tips on getting control of different kinds of text: the newspapers, literature and poetry.
In addition to this book, I can recommend exercising with a speed reading audio program, that should be listened while reading. I can suggest "The Speed Reading 16-Minute Audio Program" which I have personally used.
The book then leads through several chapters of somewhat interesting, easy-to-swallow "facts" and stories about speed reading and the promises it holds, such as being able to read texts at 1000 wpm, about 17 words a second, without much sacrificing comprehension. Oh it is certainly possible, but not everyone read to forget. There was too, a diagnostic test along with several passages and a mix of short random pieces of info, from which you learn neat tidbits about the author's other revolutionary ideas and Trademarks, such as Mind Mapping, and Mastering Memory.
If you continue reading beyond the initial chapters, you will eventually find some useful information, tips, methods on speed reading. These can best be summarized by the titles they carry: "Your Amazing Eyes", "Super Concentration and Comprehension", "Advanced Use of Your Eye/Brain Systems" - impressive stuff. Such useful information are sprinkled like raisins in a box of raisin bran - tasty, but not enough to make you eat it with all the unpalatable bran. Compared to all the other speed reading books, the ones that let you use your own material, that make use of drills and gives you tips in a straightforward and unembellished way, this is a poor investment of your money and time.
