Fond memories of playing the original on the amiga as a kid prompted me to buy this. Unfortunately, it's a huge disappointment. It has twice the leagues and twice the teams as the original, but that's about the only plus. Instead of playing 'brutal deluxe,' you can name your own team and choose a colour and an icon. And that's the limit of any extra customization. It's not 1991 any more. All this time and advance in computer capabilities and that's all we get? The 'star players' don't even get individual pictures any more. All the players on your team fall into three poorly-drawn models: male, female, and cyborg. It's underwhelming. Overall, the graphics are very poor. Plus, there's bugs. The ball will get stuck in the arena walls occasionally and you just have to wait till the next quarter to be able to interact with it again, a little like a dodgy pinball table. Other than the that, the general playability is alright but it's just not enjoyable enough to hold interest for long. Especially when there's a giant download time between games. If you're stubborn enough to keep playing long enough to win the league, there's no fireworks or fancy congratulatory video: just a simple game over message. It feels like a bad joke. Oh, and you can't even play it without the 'Steam' internet downloader, either. And Steam will occasionally tell you that you don't own it, despite the fact that you paid way too much money for the physical copy of it that you're now considering using as a coaster instead.

Having played this to death onmy Atari I thought this remake would be fun. Instead it adds very little and seems to have lost some of the simple enjoyment of the original. It isn't terrible, it just feels basic. Like an iPad game scaled up for the PC.
