Grade 9 Up–Featuring college-aged characters, this third in a trilogy that includes Hard Cash (2003) and Shacked Up (2004, both Pulse) is catchy enough to stand alone. Rich is having new feelings for his old flatmate, Bonny, but isn't sure how to tell her. She had moved out after she revealed her true feelings for him when he was dating someone else. They spend some time together in his London flat, but always seem to be interrupted by life's emergencies. Bonny has trouble dealing with her rich father and her insecurities. Also, she worries about her friend Liz, who has been taken against her will to a commune in Scotland. When Rich vows to help rescue her, the focus turns to the road trip and the mood lightens. Rich's inner feelings about love, sex, and money are spot-onand entertaining. Written in the same vein as other modern Brit hits like Carolyn Mackler's The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things (Candlewick, 2003) and Louise Rennison's Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging (HarperCollins, 2000), this offering has plenty of wit and sarcasm.–Karen Hoth, Marathon Middle/High School, FL

This novel is the third and final novel of the Hard Cash Trilogy. Case in point- you should read the other two novels in order before reading this one for it to make sense. Hard Cash, Shacked Up, and then Speeding. In this novel Bonny and Rich finally settle down together in a relationship. Before they can even enjoy each other, everyone is in their buisness from Tigger, Nick and Barb, etc... Adding depth to the novel is Bonny's secret problem with sex and Rich's ex Portia. Bonny's friend gets lured away by her possessive bf to a cult and Rich and Bonny hit the road to save her. Don't think this is really a road trip b/c it really isn't. The novel is fresh with only a few dull moments. The ending is good as well.
