About Speedo
In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, "Speed on in your Speedos." In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn’t take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it’s manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange.

Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits.

Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland’s Inge de Bruijn.

My daughter swims summer swim team for 8 weeks at a time, and she has had the same pair of Jr. Hydrospex for 5 years. Yes, years. I don't know how they have lasted that long, because we also swim at an indoor pool about 20 times the rest of the year. Only now, as a teenager, does she need the adult size Hydrospex.

That's a pretty good recommendation.

I purchased 2 pairs of goggles for my 10 and 12 year old children. They used them for a week on vacation in Mexico swimming in the pool and ocean. Both of my children said they were the best goggle's they have had and were able to play in the water for hours at a time without having any eye irritation. Both my children have light blue eyes which are very sensative to chlorine and sea salt. I highly recommend them.

Both ,y kids, 3 and 6yo, are using these for their swim lessons. They work great. Remember if you are a parent and putting them on, split the band in the back one high, one low, and these googles will stay on when diving. To get 5 stars they would have to have an easier tightening mechanism.

One of the problems with goggles that feature silicone cups is the limited lifetime they offer. Usually, such gaskets simply won't last for more than 9-12 months unless you take extremely good care of them, and most swimmers I know usually don't.

I had a pair of these and generally enjoyed them for the first few months. They had minimal leakage and zero fogging whatsoever, which really is the hallmark and strongest feature of speedo goggles. I chose the Jr. Hydrospex because of the narrower nose piece and the smaller profile gaskets, which will fit anyone with a narrower face better than the respective adult version. The soft silicone cups make them much more comfortable to wear than swedes if you're not into that sort of thing. The strap on these goggles is one of the best I've ever had on any brand, ever.

Now for the bad; getting a good seal with these goggles will take some coaxing, especially after a few sessions in the pool. The gaskets begin getting brittle after a few swims and the unadjustable nosepiece is a MAJOR hinderance. Tightening the goggles forces the inner corner of the gasket out of place, which soon becomes necessary as the gaskets wear out. This increases leakage and discomfort for the wearer as the goggles shift out of their ideal position on the face and toward the inner corner of the eye. The nosepiece will not keep the goggles where you want them if you tighten them too much, which means leakage is almost guaranteed. After extended use, the gaskets will actually begin separating from the lenses, and at this point the goggles pretty much need to be replaced (if used daily without perfect care, this can happen after as little as 4 months).

These are the best pair of speedo goggles I've used recently, but thats not saying much.

I was at my wit's end trying to find something that fit my long head. It turns out that these were the perfect fit, and the adult version s I was trying to work with were no longer right for me. I only decieded to try and use this pair once the local speedo rep mentioned this as an option. I bought ten pair. Adults: consider the Jr's if your head is not fitting the adult version properly.

Also, keep those fingers off the inside of the lenses to keep the antifog protection going.

Bought 4 pairs of these for boys aged 5-11 and they work great for all of them. No water in the eyes and nicely adjustable to fit each of their heads.

I recently started swimming as an adult. Chlorine bothers my eyes a great deal, and I asked my swimming teacher to recommend a good pair of goggles. He recommended Speedo Hydrospex. I immediately went for the adult size, but he explained that the most important aspect of a good fit was the sizing and shape of the eye cups, particularly if you have a narrower face. We then tried on all three sizes Speedo makes, starting with the smallest for children. They were clearly too small, and we moved on to these, the Junior Hydrospex Classics, which I also expected to be too small. I was wrong. They were a perfect fit for the geometry of my face. The adult goggles were OK but a tad too large and I think I would have had much more leaking with them.

Despite being an adult, I fit the Junior Hydrospex perfectly, and I am grateful to my instructor for having me test fit these. The moral of the story is clear: if at all possible try on the goggles you're looking at before buying as you could be surprised about what fits best.

I got the clear goggles (I tried the tinted ones and they were too dark for my preference) and have had no problems with leaking or fogging. They are comfortable and keep my eyes mercifully free of chlorine. I have been swimming with them twice a week for a few months now, and they are holding up well so far. I highly recommend Speedo Hydrospex Classics to anyone doing a lot of swimming: just make sure you get the right size for your face.

I bought a pair of these for my 3yo and 5yo boys, not a single thing to complain about.
They seal well over the eyes and the single molded piece seems very durable. The straps adjust easily and hold very well.
