I distance swim(laps) so a comfortable goggle is a must. This goggle fits well but gets tighter as you pile on the laps. to the poingt that you need to stop and release the air behind them. These are not designed for distance. They are better suited for racing.

I bought these for my son, who swims on a USA-Swimming club team. He liked them because (duh!) Michael Phelps wore them. But really, he tried them on at a swim meet, and with the different nose pieces we were able to get a very good fit (not easy). The black ones are really dark outdoors, and help a lot to protect his eyes (especially during backstroke). With the black frames, they look ominous (cool to a 10 year old). The clear ones are great indoors at winter meets. Some of the swim eqpt vendors said they don't stock these because the edges and fit feel "hard" to some swimmers, versus the more common "cushy" framed ones, and that may be an issue for daily workouts. So they seem a bit less popular than the other speedo models. The strap clasps work very well. On the neg (only reason for 4 stars) is the fact that although they are fog-free for the most part, we tried to wipe a little water out of them at a meet with a towel, and basically ruined the fog-free finish inside. Now there are permenant scratches inside, with no way to get rid of them. Especially noticable with the black goggles. A little less durable fog-free finish than other goggles we've had experience with. I'm told (after the fact, of course) to NEVER wipe the insides with anything, just rinse and air dry. Now we know. Hope this helps. (note: If possible, try them on first. The "hard" fit may not be for everyone)

These goggles are fantastic. Not only do they look nice, but they work great. They seal up to the eyes and do not leave marks around them. They also allow for some peripheral vision.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY! Goggles That Are Worth The Money!!, February 2, 2008
By

Oh thank GOD! I have spent literally hundreds of dollars on every goggle out there on the market, looking for one that will actually fit my narrow face (and by extension, my 9 year old son's narrow face!), and finally, we found the Speed Socket.

My biggest problems are getting goggles not to take on water, and not having them "flip" when I dive in. These are made such that they don't fit around the eye socket, they fit inside the socket, and as such, I have not had a single problem whatsoever.

My son is a very competitive swimmer with a powerful butterfly. On his fly, the combination of the surge and the turn of the head to breathe pulls at goggles, and they have just never stayed well on his narrow face. He too loves the Speed Sockets, and absolutely refuses to wear anything else.

Hooray for Speedo! Hooray for Speed Sockets! Hooray for the end to the looooooong search for something that works!

2.0 out of 5 stars Watertight but painful, February 12, 2011
I've had trouble finding a good pair of goggles for a narrow face. From the reviews I thought these might work. At first I thought they were wonderful. They are definitely the most watertight goggles I've ever had. But after about 30 or 40 minutes they got to be very painful on my face. I usually swim for about an hour and by the end of that time I had deep red circles around my eyes even with the straps fully extended. In doing more research I see that Speedo has three different ratings for their goggles: "Competition," "Performance" and "Active." These are rated for Competition so are perhaps better suited for shorter workouts. "Active" are for recreational - vacations and such. I'm going to try a pair rated in the "Performance" category and see if they are more comfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fits well to face; no leakage; made in japan, September 2, 2008
Got these to replace my last goggles which were leaking and strap broke. Definitely a quality product, made in japan. Use an anti-fog spray with it and it will last for many uses. One drawback is that it leaves circles around the eyes that last for awhile after taking them off. Would not recommend going out on a date immediately after swimming with these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but..., July 30, 2009

My 10-year-old son has 2 pairs of these goggles, and he really likes them. The choice of nose pieces works really well for him. Two caveats: These goggles leave big raccoon marks around his eyes, more than any other goggles he has worn. Also, the tinted ones (he has blue) are just lightly tinted; don't plan to use them for backstroke outdoors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent competitive goggle one caveat, March 1, 2009

Excellent range of fit from children to adults. One caveat, the goggles (under water only) have a minus lens optical power. This works well for near sighted people and children. Normal sighted adults will be moderately blurred underwater only. I guess the engineers forgot to check the optics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great goggles for pool and open water., May 14, 2007

They're not as hard as Swede style goggles, but they are comfortable, low profile and actually are more suitable than Swedes for open water swims, from my experience.

If care is taken to not touch the insides, the anti-fog coating lasts a long time, and I don't have any leakage problems.

These are now the only goggles I'll wear.

These are the best goggles I've worn. The Speed Socket's sit in your eye socket more than the other goggles so they don't stick out as far and has a better peripheral that way. I've never had a problem with these goggles while owning and vigorously used them on a daily basis, and they've lasted 4 years to date. They don't fall off, even on the bad dives, they don't fog up (I used to spit in them before I used them each day), and they've never scratched. These are definatly worth it.
