Book Description

December 5, 2008
The love of fast cars has exploded -- from a rebellious underground pastime it has become a huge worldwide cult -- spawning its own sub cultures in music, art and fashion. Ten years in the making Speedseekers is the ultimate book on the world of Hot rods and Kustom Kulture. Author Alexandra Lier has spent a decade at the epicenter of the scene from the drag strips of Bakersfield to the Bonneville Salt Flats to Los Angeles most devotional garages, revving engines and burning rubber with the worlds foremost mechanics, racers and adrenaline junkies. Not just for gear heads, Speedseekers covers the music, the artists and pinstripers, and of course the pin-up girls. Peek under hoods and into interiors and meet the fascinating characters that have devoted their lives to the pursuit of the ultimate rush. Full color photographs and graphics throughout. More exciting than a nitro burning supercharged Hemi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inside View of the Hot Rod World from the Outside, September 8, 2009
By
Cutawayguy "Tom" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Speedseekers (Hardcover)
Alexandra Lier probably isn't the most natural person to write and produce one of the best books around on the world and people of hotrodding, but her credentials are pretty good. From Hamburg, Germany, the visual appeal must have been there, and she started coming to the Hot Rod Reunions, Bonneville and other events, meeting people and making herself known for many years before Speedseekers was to be published. The visuals are rough-edged and a bit gritty, which is the way this sport should be shown. This is not a polite Amy Vanderbelt world, and she carries it off very well in this impressive book. The research was very detailed and thoughtful, although obviously done from the outside looking in. Don't think someone on the inside could have come up with the same level of appreciation that Speedseekers obviously shows. With the biggest trends in Hot Rodding going back to the racing of the earlier days, this may be a look at the future, as Alex gets into the people and the participant events, not the big media events that everyone watches on Sunday afternoon ... this is real people doing what they love doing.
Alex is a Creative Director, and that skill really shows in some of her inserts of media and historic items that spice and flavor this presentation from page 1.
I hope that people appreciate what is there, because there is everything from classic hot rodding, the Salt Flats, suede, Rat Rods, customs, choppers, drag racing ... all those dirty-fingernail parts of the sport that are essentially done for the love, not for the money. This is the automotive wild west as it is being done today.
Think anyone interested in any of these areas will appreciate what Alex is presenting. Enjoyed it completely.Speedseekers

This book is great for any speed freak. What stunning photography and many never seen before shots. It covers a vast range of car motorsports, yet each section is done well and quite a complete overview. Very impressed. Will be watching out for more books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT!, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Speedseekers (Hardcover)
Finally a book that shows the whole world of "the real speedseekers" - Structured in history, garage, speed, landspeed, style and sound. Full of characters that live the life to its fullest!

I am blowed away by the design and the silver print.

The story is informative and written well by gearhead Kevin Thomson.

This is a book for the coffe table!
