Well worth the wait. Exceptional chronicle about the Florida East Coast Railway. This book is a must have for anybody interested in the Florida East Coast Railway or Florida History in general. Commendations are in order for Seth Bramson for his relentless efforts in producing this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A must have, but get the first edition
Having ridden the FEC since I was a child, this book was a dream come true. The pictures, maps, and narrative are incredible, whether you rode the FEC, are a modeler, or simply interested in Florida history. I bought the second edition with the expectation that there would be new information, diagrams, etc. I was disappointed. Mr Bramson's book is still "the" book on...

I would love to reveiw his latest book but i am still waiting for it to arrive. If it is anything like the original it will be the definitive book on the FEC. The few copies of the original you can still find have appreciated in value to the point these should be bought as an investment. It is possible his passion for this railroad was only exceeded by the old man himself. I am speaking of Flagler who pushed the line all the way to Key West and lived just long enough to see it thru. Whether or not you have any interest in the Florida East Coast Railway when you start this book, you certainly will by the time you finish as his passion is contaigious. Best of luck with your latest edition Mr. Bramson!...

Seth, you hit it out of the park on this one, baby!

One could not possibly hope to find a more comprehensive, more enthusiastic, better written book about the Florida East Coast Railway.

Buy this one and savor it - it's one of the best railroad books I've ever read!

If you have Bramson's first book then you will know why this should be in your collection. This adds the history of the railroad from the 1980's to present day. For all the fans of the Florida East Coast Railway, this is the Bible of the FEC history. Many great photos that Seth has been able to save from the dumpters over the years. Seth lives in Miami and is known as Mr. FEC in railroad circles. If you are into the great history of the development of the east coast of Florida and the railroad that went to Key West, then this is the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book,I have this one and the Original 1980's Version., February 17, 2009
This review is from: Speedway to Sunshine: The Story of the Florida East Coast Railway (Hardcover)
I had purchased the Original Book when it was "Rare" the 1980's version, and at the time it cost $200 over 10 years ago, fast forward to the "New" and of course updated revised edition, which I added to my library, although I was upset at having to spend so much on the original.
Nonetheless, I am grateful to the Author for this wonderful History and photos, and this book is must for any railfan, any Fec Fan.

Great production. Anyone who has an interest in Florida's development at the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century will find a plethora of photos and stories not to be found from any other source. Henry Morrison Flagler's profound contribution to transforming a wilderness into the most desired vacation destination in America unfolds page by page. Fascinting. Spellbinding.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last of the Great Railroads, January 25, 2004

Mr. Bramson has taken his long out of print history of the Florida East Coast Railway and updated it. "New and Improved" tend to be overused adjectives, but in this case they are totally accurate and well deserved.

Mr. Bramson is the corporate historian for the FEC, and it's totally apparent in this work that he truly LOVES the railroad and it's people. The FEC is the railroad other railroads go to when they encounter problems because, in most cases, the FEC has "Been there, done that".

In an age where railroad mergers have become commonplace, it's great to see one of the nation's finest railroads remaining independent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Railroad History Book, January 14, 2012

This review is from: Speedway to Sunshine: The Story of the Florida East Coast Railway (Hardcover)
This book is a wonderful collection of photographs and historical data about the development of railroads on Florida's east coast, and in particular, the Florida East Coast Railway. It starts with the earliest railroads (before Flagler) and tells the story of how they merged and grew, went out of business or were taken over. With Henry Flagler's vision of building a railway to Key West, this story tells that saga as well as many more that the reader will enjoy. A very enjoyful book.

If you're just visiting the Sunshine State or a lucky enough to live here, this fascinating story of early Florida and the Florida East Coast Railroad is a great afternoon reading adventure ...

This small railroad led to the development of Palm Beach, Miami, and virtually the entire Florida Gold Coast ... the remains of the railway still can be seen on the drive to Key West today ...

This is an interesting story of the Florida East Caost Railway as a whole. It is not limited to the Key West Extension. If one is interested primarily in the Key West Extension, this is a good supplement, but cannot be the main resource.
