Spelling help for middle school kids,
This review is from: How To Spell It (Clear and Simple) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a fourth grade teacher and have used this book in my classroom and recommend it to all my parents for home use. A dictionary doesn't help kids spell. They just get frustrated and never find the word. Using phonetic spelling, this book ACTUALLY helps kids find the correct spelling. Kids fight over these books in my classroom. Great if you want to stop answering those same old "How do you spell ______? questions.

This is a fantastic tool for writers of all ages. My fourth graders now enthusiastically look up words whenever they are not sure. It is so simple to use even reluctant writers go to it, but the wide range of vocabulary means that I use it, too. I have cherished our few classroom copies during the years when local bookstores said it was not available. I am so excited to find it again. This is the outstanding answer to the age-old writing question, "How do you look up the spelling when you don't know how to spell it?"

This is a very useful little book. My third and fourth graders think it is great and they learned to use it very quickly. They all have Spanish as their first language and many struggle with English spelling. My one reservation keeping me from giving this book five stars is that, in my case, I would have preferred more primary Spanish specific spelling mistakes, i.e. the endess confusion between the letters v and b. Still, this book has proved to be very useful and I'll be ordering more copies for my class.

One's father told one to look up any word he did not know how to spell. One better know how to misspell a word properly to find it in this book so that one can find how to spell it correctly. For if one spells the word too weirdly one might not find it here.Sea, iff wun spels tings werdly, won mite nefer fined it hier. |
