Merlin, Flying Carpets and the Magic Whistle, July 10, 2003
This review is from: Spell (Audio CD)
The follow up to the beautiful "Rain" CD, "The Spell" gives these two fellow space music travellers a chance to weave more of their aural magic. While a bit more orchestral in scope(compared to "Rain"), the unmistakable Braheny & Clark elements such as EWI and MIDI'ed bells are given plenty of space to stretch out and explore the many themes presented. The magic whistle mentioned in the review title refers to the lovely whistling that accompanies the polyrhythms and washes in the song "The Sail Of Argo Navis". Other standout tracks include "A Perfect Evening For Flying Carpets" and "The Sorceror's Parade". These are the more upbeat and lively tracks on the CD. "Time in The Mirror", "Palace of Dreams" and "The Spell" get a little more dark and dreamy to round out the mix.
While the music on this CD doesn't really classify as "Space Music" or "Ambient", it is nonetheless very enjoyable and several tracks regularly make appearances on compilation CD's that I burn. This is the last CD that Braheny and Clark released together.....I sincerely hope they do another! Bring on the Mighty Serge!
If you like what you hear on this one, don't forget to check out "Secret Rooms" by Braheny and "Tales Of The Sun People" by Clark(both on the Hearts Of Space label).

One of the best!!, October 12, 1999

The music on this CD is simply wonderful! Gorgeous music that affects the heart & soul and, incredibly, gets better with each listening. Kevin Braheny & Tim Clark weave magic here. Braheny lovers; don't stop with The Way Home! This is as good! Truly.

I love to play "The Spell" when I'm alone and sitting quietly at least once every couple of days. Sometimes my mind flys across the galaxies within and I see incredible, beautiful images and pictures. Electronic nirvana!
