Smooth, Deep, Hits the Listener. A great album,

A fantastic album, from the first song (a moving number), to the cover (quite an beautiful version, with deep emotion and a heavy blues feel), to the last cut. Jones is a brilliant musician, composer and singer. This album really shows his talent, grasp and depth of music. Take the best of Sinatra, Torme, and Harry Connick, Jr. throw in some Stan Getz and that still does not match up to what one Vince Jones has in him. A real treat for the jazz lover.

This is a landmark early digital recording,

If you pine for clear, untampered sounds, and you like laid-back Jazz, you'll like this recording. When Vince Jones was a pub musician in Melbourne, Australia, I heard him play some of the tracks on Spell 'live'. I can tell you the sound is accurate, unlike his later releases which suffer from too much studio tinkering. I believe that Spell was the first digitally recorded popular album in Australia. It was first released on Vinyl, and later on CD.
