More About the Author

I'm a forty-seven year old single, childless, professional palmist and writer, the eldest of five dyslexic, deranged and dysfunctional children. My mother had a gallon of gypsy blood in her and my father was a war veteran, able to turn his hand to just about anything.
I was born in and spent my earliest times in a draughty beach hut in Walbaswick, Suffolk, UK. Later on, the ever-growing family upped sticks and moved to Lowestoft, also in Suffolk. I spent a goodly chunk of my life there, almost succumbing to the cloying sea-mists, massive alcohol consumption and sticky sands of that drab town.
Though possessed by a love of words and language, I was not a good citizen, in court 28 times and spent a very short period of time in prison on remand (for car theft). Dyslexic, desperate and ill-educated, I was mad for the material things I imagined would give my life lustre.
A lust for learning kicked in at last at age 28. I forged and fiddled my way into the University of East Anglia as a mature student.
I did English literature and loved it. At that time, that avuncular, easy-going, Malcolm Bradbury taught under-grads creative writing. I drank up the classes like a parched desert absorbs water.
I decided I was going to be a writer. I left UEA, wrote thirty or forty short stories, sold none and sulked for three years.
Then through a mix of ancestral urges and amazing co-incidence I stumbled into the trade of palmistry. Though a total sceptic, I met a world- class palmist who convinced me of its value and educated me in its subtle intricacies. Since that time I've earned a living as a palmist and subsidised my income with writing.
I've had a short story - 'Unbearable Brightness' published, along with various other short stories and articles. Encouraged by this success, I went on to write 'The Spellbinding Power of Palmistry' and 'Palmistry-Apprentice to Pro in 24 Hours'. I wrote these books out of frustration at the mass of books out there that were full of outdated references and gobbledegoook.
For five years though, my main focus way my SF novel, 'While the Gods Sleep.' A love story really, with it's main theme being deception, and the way information will be manipulated completely in the near future.
I'm currently working on 'Nearly Normal' a novel about a poor kid growing up, rebelling against his raggle-taggle gypsy mother and dying to be normal. In all my books, stories and works, I'm fascinated by the underlying realities at work beneath the surface of experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, accurate and easy to understand, August 18, 2005
This review is from: The Spellbinding Power of Palmistry: New Insights into an Ancient Art (Paperback)
I love this book.Johnny has updated palmistry in this very easy to understand book.Taking you step by step trough all the aspects of hand reading, Including health and how to heal what troubles you in your life. Full of exercises to do at the end of each chapter really makes you feel that you are picking it up. It illustrations are fantastic and clear taken from real prints so that you can really understand what you are looking for. Other books have at times left me feeling a bit bewildered, so much to remember and put together. But Johnnys book is not like that at all, very accurate and straightforward, I would recomend this book to anyone that has an interest in Palmistry. Hopfully there will be more to come and I will be the 1st in the queue to purchase it.... It's a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Really SOLID Book for Your Hand Reading Library, October 20, 2008

I have his other book, the one about going from newbie to pro in 24 hours and BOTH are great hand reading books. I have really enjoyed BOTH. This one has more hand prints and is a great bookend for the other book. If you are going to get one or the other get this one. I found it more concise and did not have as many anecdotes, which was fine by me.

GREAT illustrations and I enjoyed his writing style.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book but hard work, September 9, 2005
This review is from: The Spellbinding Power of Palmistry: New Insights into an Ancient Art (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. I though it was going to be full of old traditional gypsy fortune telling stuff, but it wasn't. Its got lots of scientific research in it that back up palmistry. There are exercises to do at the end of each chapter so you learn the process properly. Also there's a chapter on developing your intuition. Intuitive or not, you'd learn how to give a palmistry reading to professional level with this book. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
