Something epic this way comes, March 14, 2008
This review is from: Spellbound (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1998, Spellbound was album #3 from English melodic rockers Ten. Ten made a name for themselves with the powerful melodic rock sound they introduced on their previous albums Ten and The Name of the Rose, but on Spellbound the band made a definite push towards the epic rock sound that fans of their later albums know (and love) so well.
Spellbound includes a good mix of AOR songs and melodic hard rockers, all of which have fantasy themed lyrics. The almost Celtic style trio of songs We Rule the Night, Remembrance for the Brave, and Red are my favorite part of the album, but the whole album is quite good. Gary Hughes is, as always, an incredible presence on vocals, and his songwriting and production skills continue to impress. Ex-Dare guitarist Vinny Burns is no less a presence, coming up with some great melodies and absolutely killer solos.
If you're already a Ten fan, you don't need me to tell you that this is an album worth owning. If you enjoy bands like Dare, TNT, Shy, Pretty Maids, Europe, and Rainbow, you need to add some Ten to your collection, and Spellbound is a perfectly good place to start.

Ten's Hardest Rocking Set, June 12, 2011
This review is from: Spellbound (Audio CD)
This album has everything a hard melodic rock/metal fan could want, combining elements of classical/symphonic rock and metal with progressive rock. The melodies are great, too, and considering the fact that some of the songs are over 6 minutes long, they go by fast. This is not your typical arena rock, either. The songs are well constructed, and the production is flawless. The title track, "Spellbound," is a huge highlight. No matter if TEN is going for roakers or ballads, they are both equally strong, with each song taking on its own identity and leaving a lasting impression well after the album is finished. There is a right way and a wrong way to make this type of a rock album, and TEN consistently does it right. Overall, this is one of their all-time best albums, and one would be hard-pressed to find a better album released in this genre during the current time period. Of all of Ten's albums, "Spellbound" is their hardest. SO if you are a fan of the rockers over the ballads, this is the one you want. But the song quality is so good, this is a good purchase for any melodic rock fan.

Asia/TNT styled Bombastic Approach, July 16, 2005
This review is from: Spellbound (Audio CD)
1998 release by the British melodic rock band founded by Gary Hughes as lead vocalist and Vinny Burns the guitarist, is quite impressive, passionate, mythic and catchy as well.
This fifth album is sort of concept album luring us into medieval mythical wonderland. MARCH OF THE ARSONAUTS, the uplifiting instrumental track opens as graceful as some of the Asia and TNT classics. Gary Huges has such magical talents in vocals managing both ballad-style tracks such as WE RULE THE NIGHT, WONDERLAND, and TILL THE END OF TIME and rock anthems such as RED and SPELLBOUND quite well. Every track is crisp and clear and well balanced in edgy and mellow appeal of the band.
Verdict: Late 90s melodic masterpiece.
Rating: 96 out of 100
Best Fit Mood: Late at Night listening essential.
Promotion Tips: The music fits for chivalous and mythically themed movies and games such as Harry Potter Series.
Recommended for: Asia, Styx and TNT fans.
