An enchanting new fantasy novel.,
This review is from: Spellfall (Hardcover)
Natalie thinks she is just an ordinary girl. She lives an ordinary life with her father, stepmother, and stepbrother. She misses her dead mother terribly. Her father has not been himself since she died. Natalie does not know that her mother had come from another world. One day in the supermarket parking lot, Natalie notices a glimmering wrapper. She has no knowledge that noticing this will lead to her being kidnapped. Natalie's captor knows that she has inherited her mother's power. He wants to force her to join his Spellclave, which will then destroy the magical world Natalie's mother came from, Earthaven. She escapes, aided by her captor's son, Merlin, who is as much a prisoner as Natalie herself is. Together, the two journey to Earthaven, where they discover a world unlike anything they ever imagined. But can they save Earthaven and return to their own world in time? I highly reccomend this enchanting book to readers who enjoy fantasy novels.

An Excellent Story --Harry Potter Fans Rejoice!,
By "liaden" (Somewhere Over the Rainbow) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spellfall (Hardcover)
Twelve-year-old Natalie is recycling her cans when she is confronted by a ragged old man in the supermarket parking lot who tries to lure her into becoming part of his renegade band of oucast wizards. So begins her adventure in which she is hunted by this man and his spellclave, only to find the true source of her blind mother's death and the magical destiny that awaits her in an paralell world to our own. Pick up this book and you will not be disapointed. With a touch of Harry Potter and spoonful of Tamora Pierce, you will enjoy every last drop of this utterly mind-stirring novel! (Be warned, however, sometimes the writing lags a little, but I would hope something like this would NEVER stop you from reading such a great book!) Happy Reading![...]

By American Idiot "K.T." (Green Day , America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spellfall (Paperback)
Spellfall is the story of a girl name Natalie or Nat for short. She is the normal girl with a stepmom, a drunk father, and a stepbrother who isn't nice all the time. Only one day at the store she discovers a shining wrapper. It turns out to be a spell. Then the next morining she is kidnapped and thrown into the world of magic. This story is great. In the main run it is based on the power of friendship. For example Merlin and Natalie. When Nat befriends Merlin she shows him that he is more than what his father thinks. And with this strengh he is able to save the beautiful Haven.

Spellfall is a really good book. I think who ever likes magical books like Shanara, Harry Potter, and Merlin will really like Spellfall. To me, it's better than Harry Potter.

Spellfall,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spellfall (Hardcover)
I think this is the best book in the world! I have read it four times. I wish Katherine Roberts would write a sequel really, really, really badly! I wish I could put 25,000 stars instead of 5. I recommend it.

Book Of The Year!!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spellfall (Hardcover)
I think read this book because of it's amzing way to show imagination and reality in one. There is lovable animals that amaze you and give you a happy feeling , and there are human amotions that you can relate to.There is an evil villian that you can come to hate just like the characters in this book. You will find yourself mixed up in the adventures with the main character Natalie. You will be able to feel the feelings that Natalie feels with her family , her friend , and her mage hound katanaqui. This book reflects courage , hope , and love. The descriptions are wonderful! You can completly make a picture in your mind of what the author describes. This a wonderful book and I hope you will decide to be part of the magic of Spellfall!

Quite enjoyable,
By Kurt A. Johnson (North-Central Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Spellfall (Hardcover)
Natalie is a simple girl, trapped in a family with a distant, alcoholic father and a rebellious foster-brother. However, when she encounters a strange and menacing old man at the supermarket, her whole world is turned inside out. Kidnapped by a fiendish spell-caster who wants to take over an alternate world, Natalie must fight to protect the lives of those around her and the very existence of a world she never knew existed. For the sake of others, Natalie must be strong and transcend all of the boundaries that have existed around her.I found this to be quite an enjoyable story. The characters are interesting, and the storyline flows along quite well. It is a good book for younger readers: lightweight, and yet quite enjoyable.

It's okay but it's not worth the money,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spellfall (Hardcover)
I have read Song Quest by Katherine Roberts and it was amazing, so I spent almost twenty dollars buying this book which I thought would also be amazing. I can't believe I wasted so much of my own money on this. It's okay, but it isn't amazing and it isn't worth the money. I don't want to waste too much time talking about the plot so I'll make it simple. Basically, this girl named Natalie goes into another world where people use spells and have animals that talk. She has to stop the bad guy from killing the magic tree. That's it. What really disappointed me is that although this is a book about magic, Natalie never uses any magic or does anything of great importance. This book is also a bit difficult to read because it's hard to keep going, even if you're on an exciting part(of which there are very few). Now don't get me wrong, this book was okay and it had a surprise ending that I liked. Read it, but wait untill you can get it at the public library.

A Spellbinding Read,
By
This review is from: Spellfall (Kindle Edition)
In a market, where most books seem to be part a series, Spell Fall is a refreshing single novel. Set in the modern age, Katherine Roberts, skilfully creates a fantasy world where magic is plausible. The plot seems straightforward at first, but takes so many twists and turns that the reader continues to be surprised without becoming disjointed. I greatly enjoyed the parallel stories which greatly enhanced the story, and offered a great insight to the heroism and capabilities of the 'ordinary' humans. It was also interesting to see how, while magic enhanced the premise of the book, it did not overwhelm the story. As someone interested in science I was most intrigued by the Raven weapon, and Merlin's victory was a 'revenge of the geeks' moment that still brings a smile to my face, years after first reading the book. For anyone looking for a good read, I would recommend 'Spell Fall.' It's not the huge epic, that settles the end of the world, but the smaller and no less devastating battles that take place are closer to the individual offering an insight not often seen. I've long since left this reading level behind, but I nevertheless enjoy returning to Earthaven time and time again. |
