This Advance Dungeons and Dragons campain setting box set is among the most fantastic ever produced. With the three books contained within this set, is everything that anyone need know to begin an AD&D campain in space. It allows you to take to the stars within the fantasy worlds of Forgotten Relms, Dragonlance and Grey Hawks.

5.0 out of 5 stars When you get bored of your world...., December 13, 2009
This review is from: Spelljammer: Adventures in Space (AD&D 2nd Ed Fantasy Roleplaying, 2bks+4maps+cards+counters) (Paperback)
When I first saw this box set when it was released, I snapped it up. And I've enjoyed it for many years.

At a time when so many world settings where on the market, and players and Dm's wanted to "live" in them all. But where stuck in there original settings. Powerful biengs they are, But! not quite powerful enough to just step between dimensions yet.

So along comes a easy simple solution, Spelljammer helms!

A unique mixture of spell and blade, ships and swashbuckling adventures through the explosive mixture of the Phlogiston (The Flow). Bored of the realms and seen everything there to see? why not travel to Grey space and experience what it has to offer. been to ravenloft once by accident and left a friend there you would love to see again and have no clue where to find another gate, take a ship!

Inside this box set you'll find hours of reading fun and colorfull maps from the hay days of TSR, New races and new foes, Find out why the word Neogi is a very seldom used word and brings about the dread of knowing that there are things in the dark best left unknowned.

The tales of the Dutchman inspired the SpellJammer, eons old and lost in the vastness of the many crystal spheres and the flow. Holding vast ancient and powerful artifacts and magics undreamed of. This gigantic Manta shaped city ship a travels endlessly ( later to be used in stargate universe love that show) showing up when least expected and then gone again.

Most would say it was a move of greed to put another setting on the market, but you can only walk in so many dungeons, slay so many dragons and see all that there is to see, they gave us a opening to experience more, dream more, create more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Space...the final frontier, November 2, 2011

This review is from: Spelljammer: Adventures in Space (AD&D 2nd Ed Fantasy Roleplaying, 2bks+4maps+cards+counters) (Paperback)
I'm surprised that so few people have reviewed this fantastic product! It has been a while since I used it, so I'm going from memory here, but believe me when I tell you that Spelljammer has provided my groups with countless hours of fun over the years.
I bought this way back in the '90s because the characters in my game were getting pretty high-level and I wanted to throw them a curve. Throwing them out amongst the stars did the trick.
The books begin by explaining how the whole "space fantasy" setup works. It's simple enough that you can grasp it quickly but complex enough to handle most situations your players throw at you.
The concept behind the game is that planets are contained by gigantic crystal spheres that float in a fiery substance known as the Phlogiston. Even the gods cannot manipulate either the sphere material or the Phlogiston itself. There are magical "helms" which allow a spellcaster to make vessels fly; a large enough ship can carry enough air for several months of travel, thus permitting travel between spheres. Needless to say, this expands your game world by leaps and bounds.
Naturally there is a nice selection of ships, new spells for dealing with the new environment and its need for a renewable atmosphere, new monsters, etc. All the stuff you'd expect from a campaign setting.
I've rambled on too long. Suffice to say that all the groups I have run through Spelljammer have enjoyed it.
